Coffea Roasterie and Espresso Bar has been a Sioux Falls name since 2009, and today it runs three public cafes in three different parts of the city: downtown at 200 S Phillips Ave, the west side original at 2318 S Louise Ave, and the east side room at 500 S Highline Pl. Each one keeps its own hours, sits in its own neighborhood, and answers a slightly different version of the question a drinker is really asking, which is where the nearest good cup is right now.

Getting that footprint right matters, because it is easy to talk about Coffea as if it were one downtown shop. It is not. A west side commuter, a downtown office worker and an east side family near Dawley Farms can each have a Coffea cafe as their closest stop, and the three cafes do not open at the same time. Told accurately, three cafes and seventeen years in the city is a story that stands on its own without any rounding up.

This post walks the three cafes one at a time, with their addresses and posted hours, and then puts them back together so a reader can pick the right door on the right day.

Three Cafes Across the City

Coffea's three cafes sit in three distinct parts of Sioux Falls. Downtown, the cafe is at 200 S Phillips Ave, ZIP 57104, on the south end of the downtown Phillips Avenue corridor. On the west side, the original cafe is at 2318 S Louise Ave, ZIP 57106. On the east side, the cafe is at 500 S Highline Pl, ZIP 57110, out toward Dawley Farms.

That spread is the whole point. Sioux Falls is a city of 197,642 people in the ACS 2023 five year estimate, and it is wide. Downtown, the Louise Avenue corridor and the Highline area are separate trips by car, and a single downtown cafe could never be the closest option for all three.

For a resident anywhere in the city, the practical upshot is simple: there is a Coffea within a reasonable drive of downtown, the west side and the east side, and each keeps posted hours of its own. The rest of this post is about telling those three cafes apart.

The Original Cafe on Louise Avenue

The west side cafe at 2318 S Louise Ave is the original Coffea room, the place where a Sioux Falls coffee name dating to 2009 first opened. Its address has not changed, and it still serves the west side today as one of the three current cafes rather than a retired flagship.

It is also the early riser of the three. The Louise Avenue cafe opens at 6am Monday through Friday and runs until 6pm. On Saturday it opens at 7am, again until 6pm, and on Sunday it keeps a shorter 8am to 2pm window. For anyone driving east into downtown for a 7am start, that 6am weekday opening is the only Coffea door already unlocked.

Louise Avenue is a long street, and it carries plenty of other coffee. A 7 Brew drive through stand opened at 3707 S Louise Ave on May 5, 2025, and Caribou runs a room at 4200 S Louise Ave. Both are chain locations well south of 2318 S Louise Ave. Anyone looking for the independent original should navigate by house number, not by the street name alone.

For west side residents, the Louise Avenue original is often the closest independent coffee without crossing back toward downtown, which makes it an anchor for that part of the city in its own right.

Downtown on South Phillips Avenue

Coffea's downtown cafe sits at 200 S Phillips Ave. It opens at 7am Monday through Friday and closes at 6pm, opens at 8am on Saturday until 6pm, and keeps the same 8am to 2pm Sunday window as the other two cafes.

Downtown Sioux Falls, the organization that promotes the city center, included Coffea in its June 20, 2025 piece on five must try coffee shops in downtown Sioux Falls. That is a dated, published endorsement from the people whose job is knowing the downtown core, and it is a good reason for a first time visitor to put the South Phillips address on the list.

There are two coffee addresses on downtown Phillips Avenue, and they sit on opposite sides of the numbering. Coffea is on South Phillips, at 200. The other is on North Phillips, at 421 N Phillips Ave Suite 101. A visitor who remembers North versus South will not end up several blocks from the door they meant to find.

The downtown cafe is also the easiest of the three to fold into a walking day. The Washington Pavilion, the 12th Street coffee addresses and the rest of the downtown core are all within reach on foot, so a morning that starts at 200 S Phillips Ave does not need a car until it leaves downtown.

East Side on Highline Place

The east side cafe sits at 500 S Highline Pl, near the Dawley Farms area. It runs 7am to 6pm Monday through Saturday, the only Coffea room where Saturday matches the weekdays, and 8am to 2pm on Sunday.

One detail here trips people up. Caribou runs a drive through and walk up location at 1710 S Highline Ave, near East 26th Street. That is Highline Avenue. Coffea's east side cafe is on Highline Place. The names sound nearly the same and sit on the same side of town, but they are different streets and different businesses, and a map search for Highline plus coffee can land on either.

For anyone living in the newer neighborhoods on the east side, the Highline Place cafe means an independent cup close to home instead of a drive into downtown traffic. For a visitor arriving off the interstate on the east edge of the city, it is often the first Coffea within reach.

Building a Downtown Morning Around South Phillips

The Downtown Sioux Falls piece that included Coffea named four other downtown cafes alongside it, and a visitor with a free morning can use that list as a walking route. Brioux Falls sits at 150 E 4th Pl Suite 202, tucked inside The Steel District. The Source Coffee Roastery and Taproom is at 421 N Phillips Ave Suite 101. Fernson Downtown appears on that page at 315 N Phillips Ave, and Daylily Coffee is at 1010 E 8th St Suite 100.

Starting at 200 S Phillips Ave and working north puts the Phillips Avenue addresses and The Steel District within a comfortable downtown walk. Daylily's posted hours are 7am to 2pm Tuesday through Friday, and it is closed on Sunday and Monday, so a Monday coffee walk should plan around that.

None of this requires a car until the walk is done, which is the practical advantage of the downtown cafe over its west side and east side siblings.

The Chain Layer Near Each Cafe

Each of the three Coffea neighborhoods also has chain coffee nearby, and knowing where those sit keeps a map search honest. Caribou lists four Sioux Falls locations: 1710 S Highline Ave on the east side, 4200 S Louise Ave on the west side, 2501 W 12th St, and 1924 S Minnesota Ave. Dunn Brothers runs its Sioux Falls East room at 5320 E Arrowhead Parkway, and The Human Bean is at 2801 E Jackson St.

Dutch Bros, by contrast, has no South Dakota locations on its own store locator. For a drinker in Sioux Falls, the independent Coffea cafes on Phillips, Louise and Highline sit among that chain layer rather than in place of it, and the house number is always the surest way to reach the door you actually want.

Planning by the Clock

Because the three cafes keep different hours, the right Coffea depends on the time as much as the neighborhood. Before 7am on a weekday, only the Louise Avenue original is open, from 6am. From 7am on weekdays, all three are open until 6pm.

Saturday splits three ways. Louise opens at 7am, Highline opens at 7am, and downtown Phillips opens an hour later at 8am, with all three running until 6pm. A Saturday morning downtown plan that hinges on a 7am coffee should start on the east or west side instead.

Sunday is the simplest day: all three cafes keep the same 8am to 2pm window. Anyone planning a Sunday afternoon coffee should aim to arrive well before 2pm, since none of the three cafes stays open later on that day.

These are the hours Coffea posts for its cafes, and holidays or special events can change any posted schedule. Checking the day's hours before a long drive across town is a small habit that saves a wasted trip.

A Sioux Falls Name Since 2009

Coffea dates its work in Sioux Falls to 2009. By the time of this writing that is seventeen years in the city, long enough that a lot of residents know the name before they know which of the three addresses is closest to them.

Growing from one original room on Louise Avenue into three cafes spanning the west side, downtown and the east side is the kind of steady expansion that happens one lease and one neighborhood at a time. It also means that the Coffea a longtime resident remembers from the early years is still open, at the same Louise Avenue address, next to two newer siblings.

My Coffee Explorer publishes a Sioux Falls guide. It counts 13 specialty cafes and roasters in the city, 5 of them local roasters. In a city with that many specialty shops, one name with three separate public cafes spread across neighborhoods, rather than stacked on one street, is worth understanding on its own terms.

For anyone new to Sioux Falls, knowing that the three cafes share one name and one history is a useful shortcut. The downtown, west side and east side locations are three doors into the same Sioux Falls story, and whichever one is nearest will do.

Which Coffea Is Closest

Downtown visitors, hotel guests near the Washington Pavilion and anyone already on foot in the core should start at 200 S Phillips Ave. It is the only one of the three within walking distance of the rest of downtown.

West side residents, early commuters and anyone near the Louise Avenue shopping corridor should start at 2318 S Louise Ave, especially on a weekday before 7am, when it is the only Coffea already open.

East side residents, families near Dawley Farms and travelers coming off the interstate on that edge of the city should start at 500 S Highline Pl, remembering that Highline Place and Highline Avenue are not the same street.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Coffea cafes are there, and where?

Coffea runs three cafes in Sioux Falls: downtown at 200 S Phillips Ave (ZIP 57104), the west side original at 2318 S Louise Ave (ZIP 57106), and the east side cafe at 500 S Highline Pl (ZIP 57110). Each keeps its own posted hours, and the three sit in separate parts of the city, so the closest one depends on where in Sioux Falls you start.

Where is the original Coffea cafe?

The original Coffea cafe is at 2318 S Louise Ave on the west side of Sioux Falls. Coffea dates its time in the city to 2009, and the Louise Avenue cafe is where that began. It is still one of the three current cafes, open 6am to 6pm on weekdays, 7am to 6pm on Saturday and 8am to 2pm on Sunday.

Which Coffea opens earliest?

The west side cafe at 2318 S Louise Ave opens earliest, at 6am Monday through Friday. The downtown cafe at 200 S Phillips Ave and the east side cafe at 500 S Highline Pl both open at 7am on weekdays. Anyone who needs coffee before 7am on a weekday should head to Louise Avenue, since it is the only Coffea open that early.

What are the downtown Coffea hours?

The downtown cafe at 200 S Phillips Ave posts hours of 7am to 6pm Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm on Saturday and 8am to 2pm on Sunday. It is the latest of the three to open on Saturday, an hour after the Louise Avenue and Highline Place cafes, so an early Saturday plan works better on the west or east side.

Are all three Coffea cafes open on Sunday?

Yes. All three Coffea cafes, 200 S Phillips Ave, 2318 S Louise Ave and 500 S Highline Pl, post the same Sunday hours of 8am to 2pm. That makes Sunday the simplest day to plan, but it also means none of the three is open on a Sunday afternoon after 2pm, so a late Sunday coffee needs to happen somewhere else.

Is the Caribou on Highline the same as Coffea's east side cafe?

No. Caribou's drive through and walk up location is at 1710 S Highline Ave near East 26th Street, on Highline Avenue. Coffea's east side cafe is at 500 S Highline Pl, on Highline Place. The two streets sound alike and sit on the same side of Sioux Falls, but they are different addresses and different businesses.

Is the 7 Brew on Louise Avenue connected to Coffea?

No. The 7 Brew drive through stand at 3707 S Louise Ave, which opened on May 5, 2025, is a chain location. The Caribou at 4200 S Louise Ave is also a chain room. Coffea's independent original cafe sits further north at 2318 S Louise Ave, so navigating by house number rather than the street name alone keeps the three straight.

Has Coffea been recognized by local organizations?

Yes. Downtown Sioux Falls, the organization that promotes the city center, included Coffea in its June 20, 2025 piece on five must try coffee shops in downtown Sioux Falls. That piece points to the downtown cafe at 200 S Phillips Ave, the only Coffea cafe within walking distance of the Washington Pavilion and the rest of the downtown core.

How long has Coffea been in Sioux Falls?

Coffea dates its work in Sioux Falls to 2009, which makes it a seventeen year old name in the city as of 2026. Over that time it grew from the original room at 2318 S Louise Ave into three cafes, adding downtown at 200 S Phillips Ave and the east side at 500 S Highline Pl.

How does Coffea fit into the wider Sioux Falls coffee scene?

My Coffee Explorer publishes a Sioux Falls guide. It counts 13 specialty cafes and roasters in the city, 5 of them local roasters. Coffea's three cafes on Phillips, Louise and Highline sit within that wider scene, spread across downtown, the west side and the east side of a city of 197,642 residents, rather than concentrated on one downtown street.
