Fall Release Weekend in the Walla Walla Valley runs November 6 to 8, 2026, and Seven Hills Winery's open house for it starts at 10:00 am on the Friday. Before that first pour, a visitor needs a cup of coffee, and on a release weekend the question is not only where but when. Downtown fills, reservations stack up, and the morning has a deadline built into it.

This is a planning guide for that morning. It takes the four wine weekends the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance publishes for the coming year, the posted weekend hours of the city's coffee counters, and the practical advice visitors actually use, and it lays out how to build a coffee morning that ends on time at the first tasting room. The coffee addresses sit on Colville Street downtown, on East Isaacs Avenue, and on A Street in the Airport District.

I read every hour and date here on September 27, 2026, from each business's own page or the wine alliance's event calendar. Where a business keeps its hours somewhere I could not read, I say where to check instead.

The Four Weekends That Shape the Calendar

The Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance lists four wine weekends on its calendar. Fall Release Weekend is November 6 to 8, 2026, held annually on the first full weekend in November. Holiday Barrel Weekend is December 4 to 6, 2026, on the first full weekend in December. Spring Kickoff Weekend follows on April 2 to 4, 2027, and Spring Release Weekend on May 7 to 9, 2027, held annually on the first full weekend in May.

Each has its own character. The alliance describes Fall Release as the moment wineries unveil their newest releases after harvest, with winemaker dinners, live music and seasonal pairings. Holiday Barrel Weekend brings special tastings and barrel samples, and downtown hosts the Parade of Lights on the Saturday evening. Visit Walla Walla describes the spring kickoff as a first taste of new rosés and white wines, often limited production and heavily allocated to wine club members.

What all four share is timing. They run Friday through Sunday, and the events on them start in the morning. That is where coffee comes in.

When the First Pours Start

The 2026 Fall Release calendar shows how early the day begins. Seven Hills Winery's open house runs from 10:00 am on November 6 to 5:00 pm on November 8. Pepper Bridge Winery's Harvest Showcase runs from 10:00 am on November 6 through 4:00 pm on November 8. The Walls Vineyards and PÁŠXA Wines list a fall release tasting on November 6 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Ordinary tasting room hours follow a similar pattern. Seven Hills lists its downtown tasting room at 212 North 3rd Avenue as opening at 10:00 AM every day. Dunham Cellars in the Airport District posts daily tastings from 11am. On the Eastside, Visit Walla Walla's touring guide lists Aluvé at 10:30 and Abeja at 11.

So the working deadline on a release weekend morning is ten o'clock. Everything in a coffee plan should be built backward from there.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday Coffee Hours

Because the wine weekends run Friday through Sunday, the weekend hours are the ones that matter. On Friday, Livit Coffee Co. at 1509 E Isaacs Ave posts 7 AM to 5 PM, Walla Walla Roastery at 290 A Street posts 7:30 am to 5 pm, Colville Street Patisserie at 40 S Colville Street posts 9 AM to 5 PM, and Maple Counter Cafe at 209 E. Alder St. posts 7 AM to 3 PM.

On Saturday, Livit posts 8 AM to 5 PM, Walla Walla Roastery posts 9 am to 4 pm, Colville Street Patisserie keeps 9 AM to 5 PM, and Maple Counter Cafe serves breakfast only from 7 AM to 3 PM. On Sunday, Livit posts no hours, Walla Walla Roastery keeps 9 am to 4 pm, Colville Street Patisserie keeps 9 AM to 5 PM, and Maple Counter Cafe again serves breakfast only from 7 AM.

Carte Coffee, at 8 N Colville St downtown, posts its current hours on its Instagram, @cartecoffee, which is the place to check before a release weekend. Read against a ten o'clock first pour, every one of these schedules leaves room for coffee first, but the Saturday and Sunday nine o'clock openings leave less slack than the weekday sevens.

Planning by Neighborhood: Downtown

Most release weekend visitors spend at least part of the day downtown, where Visit Walla Walla counts around 40 wineries along Main Street and the nearby blocks. The bureau's own downtown itinerary advises visiting the wineries just off Main Street first, while your energy and walking comfort are at their peak.

For that plan, the downtown coffee addresses are the natural start. Maple Counter Cafe on Alder Street opens at 7 AM for a sit down breakfast, takes no reservations and uses a Google waitlist, which is worth knowing on a busy Saturday. Colville Street Patisserie opens at 9 AM and describes itself as making delicious desserts, great gelato and excellent espresso. Carte Coffee on Colville Street is a Whitman walk from the college campus on Boyer Avenue.

From any of them, Main Street and the downtown tasting rooms are a walk, not a drive. The Visit Walla Walla kiosk at 26 E. Main Street opens at 10am, Wednesday through Monday, which lines up with the first pours if a group wants a map and a winery list before starting.

Planning by Neighborhood: The Airport District and A Street

The Airport District is a different kind of release weekend base. Visit Walla Walla describes it as a former World War II army airfield that now holds a group of wineries, and it names twelve of them, among them Dunham Cellars, Tamarack Cellars and Five Star Cellars. The bureau has also written about a row of five brightly colored incubator cottages at the district's edge, home to newer wineries.

Coffee in the district is at 290 A Street, where Walla Walla Roastery posts 7:30 am on Friday and 9 am on Saturday and Sunday. Dunham Cellars, at 150 E. Boeing Ave., posts daily tasting hours of 11am to 4pm with walk ins welcome.

That makes an Airport District morning an easy one to plan. A nine o'clock coffee on a Saturday on A Street, then tasting rooms in the same district from late morning, all without moving between districts.

Planning by Neighborhood: East Isaacs and the Drive Out

Visitors heading to the Eastside or the Southside wineries start in town and drive. The east side of the city has its coffee address at 1509 E Isaacs Ave, next to Bicycle Barn, where Livit Coffee Co. posts 7 AM on Friday and 8 AM on Saturday. It posts no Sunday hours, so a Sunday Eastside plan should take coffee downtown or on A Street instead.

The Eastside tasting rooms lie among vineyards around Mill Creek. Visit Walla Walla's touring guide lists Abeja at 2014 Mill Creek Road, open 11 to 3 daily by appointment, and Bledsoe McDaniels at 178 Vineyard Lane, open 10 to 3:30 Wednesday through Sunday by appointment. Both work by appointment, which is one more reason to fix the coffee stop at the same time as booking the drive.

East of the Cascades noted in its May 23, 2025 feature on Livit that the cafe is easy to speed past on crowded Isaacs Avenue. On a release weekend Friday, Bicycle Barn is the landmark to watch for.

Advice From the Wine Side

Walla Walla's wineries have their own advice on coffee mornings. A post on the Bledsoe Family Winery blog, dated September 13, 2025, lays out a planning method: check your winery reservations first, then pick a cafe within a ten minute walk or drive of where the tasting will start. The same post suggests finishing breakfast at least an hour before the first pour, and pairing morning coffee with water before switching to Syrah and Cabernet.

That post also notes that cafe hours can shift with the seasons in a wine town, especially during peak visitor times, and recommends checking websites or social media before going. On a release weekend, that advice carries extra weight.

Applied to the addresses above, the method works neatly. A ten o'clock downtown reservation pairs with Colville Street or Alder Street. An eleven o'clock Airport District reservation pairs with A Street. An Eastside appointment on a Friday or Saturday pairs with East Isaacs, and on a Sunday with downtown or A Street.

Spring Weekends, Holidays and the Rest of the Year

The spring weekends have their own rhythm. Visit Walla Walla notes that April temperatures hover in the 60s and suggests a morning trail run around Bennington Lake before afternoon wine tasting reservations, a plan that puts coffee after exercise rather than before. The April weekend also marks the Walla Walla Valley Wine Month, which the bureau described in 2026 as its sixth annual edition.

Holidays change the calendar for some businesses. Maple Counter Cafe states that it is open every day of the year with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Seven Hills Winery lists Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day as days its tasting room does not open. Holiday Barrel Weekend falls on December 4 to 6, 2026, well clear of those dates.

Outside the four big weekends, the same planning logic applies with more room to breathe. Weekday coffee starts at 7 AM on East Isaacs and at 7:30 am on A Street, and Hillcane's hours guide for the city lays out the full week by the clock.

Arriving for the Weekend and Leaving the Car

Many release weekend visitors arrive the night before. Seven Hills Winery notes on its own page that Walla Walla is a quick 45 minute flight from Seattle into ALW, about a one hour drive from the Pasco airport, and just over four hours by car from Seattle or Portland. A Friday morning arrival leaves little margin before a ten o'clock first pour, so a Thursday night arrival makes the coffee morning a relaxed one.

Once in town, a car is optional. Visit Walla Walla points out that the valley's tasting rooms are spread across six districts and lists more than a dozen tour and driver services, including Bacchus and Barley Tours, Walla Walla Wine Limo and Kickstand Tours. A downtown pickup after coffee on Colville Street or Alder Street lets a group spend the whole release weekend day tasting without anyone behind the wheel.

A Release Weekend Morning, Start to Finish

Put together, a release weekend coffee morning in Walla Walla has four steps. First, book the tasting reservations. Second, find the district of the first one: Downtown, the Airport District, or a drive out to the Eastside, Westside or Southside. Third, pick the coffee address in or on the way to that district and read its posted hours for that specific day. Fourth, give yourself the hour the wine side recommends between breakfast and the first pour.

None of that requires insider knowledge. It requires addresses, hours and a calendar, all of which are public. For the full neighborhood picture, Hillcane's Walla Walla hub post covers Colville Street, East Isaacs and A Street, and the district guide pairs each coffee address with the tasting rooms around it.

That makes ten o'clock a sensible deadline for finishing coffee downtown or in the Airport District before the first pour.

Which coffee shops are open on Saturday morning of a wine weekend?

By their posted hours, Maple Counter Cafe at 209 E. Alder St. opens at 7 AM for breakfast only on Saturday, Livit Coffee Co. at 1509 E Isaacs Ave opens at 8 AM, and Walla Walla Roastery at 290 A Street and Colville Street Patisserie at 40 S Colville Street open at 9 AM. On Sunday, Maple Counter Cafe on Alder Street opens at 7 AM for breakfast only, and Walla Walla Roastery on A Street and Colville Street Patisserie on Colville Street open at 9 AM. Livit Coffee Co. on East Isaacs posts no Sunday hours, so Eastside visitors on a Sunday should take coffee downtown or in the Airport District before driving out.

How long before a tasting should I have breakfast in Walla Walla?

A September 13, 2025 post on the Bledsoe Family Winery blog suggests finishing breakfast at least an hour before the first pour, especially after a big meal, and pairing morning coffee with water. It also recommends checking winery reservations first and then choosing a cafe within a ten minute walk or drive of the first tasting, which suits Walla Walla's district layout.

What happens downtown during Holiday Barrel Weekend?

Holiday Barrel Weekend runs December 4 to 6, 2026, on the first full weekend in December. The Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance says wineries open for special tastings and barrel samples, and downtown hosts the Parade of Lights on the Saturday evening. Downtown coffee on Colville Street and Alder Street makes an easy start to a day that ends at the parade.

Is the Airport District a good base on a busy release weekend?

It suits visitors who want coffee and tasting in one district. Walla Walla Roastery posts 9 am weekend hours at 290 A Street, and Dunham Cellars at 150 E. Boeing Ave. posts daily tastings from 11am with walk ins welcome. Visit Walla Walla names twelve Airport District wineries on a former World War II army airfield, plus a row of incubator cottages.

Are Walla Walla cafes open on Thanksgiving and Christmas?

Hours vary by business, so check each one directly. Maple Counter Cafe at 209 E. Alder St. states that it is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. On the wine side, Seven Hills Winery lists Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day as days its tasting room does not open. Holiday Barrel Weekend, December 4 to 6, 2026, avoids those dates.

What is there to do before tasting on a spring weekend?

Visit Walla Walla notes that April temperatures hover in the 60s and suggests a morning trail run around Bennington Lake before afternoon tasting reservations, along with a round at Wine Valley Golf Club. Spring Kickoff Weekend, April 2 to 4, 2027, brings new rosés and white wines. A coffee after the run, downtown or on A Street from 9 AM on weekends, fits that plan.

How can Hillcane help a Walla Walla cafe on release weekends?

Hillcane helps independent coffee shops publish what release weekend visitors plan around: an address, the district, and hours for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with any holiday or event changes stated clearly. In a city where four wine weekends fill downtown each year, a cafe that posts its weekend schedule plainly is the easiest stop to fit into a tasting day. Work with Hillcane

On a Walla Walla release weekend the first pours start at ten, so the coffee plan has to be built backward from the tasting room door.
