Downtown Napa Coffee on Foot: Main Street, Oxbow and SoFi

Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Company is at 710 Main Street, Napa, CA 94559. Ritual Coffee Roasters has a counter inside Oxbow Public Market at 610 1st Street. Ohm Coffee Roasters has its Napa SoFi Cafe at 1412 2nd St. All three addresses sit inside what the City of Napa calls the Downtown Neighborhood, and all three can be reached on foot in one loop through downtown.
This post is a walking guide rather than a ranking. It describes the three parts of downtown a visitor is likely to wander, Main Street by the river, the Oxbow District across Soscol Avenue, and the South of First blocks along Second and Third Streets, and it gives the address of each coffee room and the hours each one posts on its own site where it posts them. Nothing here is about how anyone roasts or buys coffee, and no room is ranked against another.
Napa had 78,816 residents in the Census Bureau's 2023 five year American Community Survey. It is the county seat, a working town with its own downtown, and it is a separate market from Santa Rosa, Healdsburg and the Bay Area. On foot, its downtown is small enough to cover in a morning.
What the City Means by Downtown
The City of Napa's page on the Downtown Neighborhood draws the lines clearly. It is bounded on the east by the Napa River, on the south by Division and Third Streets and on the west by Jefferson Street, with a zigzagging northern edge that follows the downtown commercial zoning boundary. It also reaches east of Soscol Avenue to take in Oxbow Public Market and the former Copia site. In all, the city says the planning area covers about 210 acres.
The same page describes a vibrant mix of commercial and residential buildings focused around the bends of the Napa River, and names Oxbow Public Market, a seasonal farmers market, the Napa Valley Opera House, restaurants and local boutique shops among its features. That is a lot packed into a small footprint, which is why downtown Napa works so well as a walking town.
For a coffee walk, the useful point is that all three cafes in this post are inside those 210 acres. A visitor staying downtown does not need a car to reach any of them, and a visitor who drives in can park once and leave the car for the morning.
Main Street and the Riverfront
Main Street runs through the heart of the Downtown Neighborhood, which the city bounds on the east by the Napa River, and it is where Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Company keeps its Napa location at 710 Main Street. Its phone number is 707 224 2233, and its site posts hours of 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week. Its own tagline says it has been waking up the Napa Valley since 1985.
Those early hours matter on a walking day. A 6:30 a.m. start, seven days a week, means a visitor can have a cup on Main Street before most of downtown opens, then walk the river while the streets are still quiet. The daily schedule also means a Sunday visitor has the same window as a Tuesday one.
The river is never far from Main Street. Visit Napa Valley's self guided downtown walking tour, published October 24, 2023, points out the Napa River views from the restaurants along the river and the community tables at Dwight Murray Plaza. With a coffee in hand, the riverfront is the natural first leg of a downtown loop.
First Street Ties the Loop Together
First Street is the spine of a downtown walk. The Napa Valley Welcome Center is at 1300 1st St, Suite 313, according to Visit Napa Valley, and the same organization's offices are at 1001 Second Street. Oxbow Public Market's address, 610 and 644 First Street, is on the same street farther east, on the far side of Soscol Avenue.
Visit Napa Valley's walking tour names the First Street bridge and the First Street Napa shopping district as stops between the Oxbow and the rest of downtown. The Napa Valley Register has reported on city discussions about adding seating, shade and lighting to make the First Street bridge a more comfortable walk between downtown and the Oxbow, which tells you the city sees that crossing as the link between the two halves of the loop.
The tour also counts more than 45 tasting rooms in downtown Napa. That number is a good reminder of how the day tends to run downtown: coffee in the morning, wine in the afternoon, and a lot of walking in between.
Oxbow Public Market and the Oxbow District
Oxbow Public Market is at 610 and 644 First Street, Napa, California 94559, and it is open every day from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a phone number of (707) 226 6529. The market calls itself the local gathering place for great food and wine, and says it sits in the Oxbow District of downtown Napa, along the Napa River and the Napa River Trail, next to the Oxbow Preserve and the Oxbow By Pass Commons.
Inside the market hall, Ritual Coffee Roasters lists its Napa location at Oxbow Public Market, 610 1st Street, Napa, CA 94559. Its posted hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Ritual describes itself as a San Francisco original since 2005, and Napa is its location outside San Francisco and the airport.
The Oxbow District has other landmarks worth a stop. Visit Napa Valley's walking tour starts there and points to The CIA at Copia and its culinary gardens, including the giant Fork sculpture by artist Gordon Huether that has become a photo stop. The market says parking is available in lots on the north and south sides of the market hall and in the shared Oxbow Public Market and CIA lot, which makes Oxbow a practical place to leave a car before walking into the rest of downtown.
SoFi, South of First Street
South of First is the newest named piece of downtown. The Bohemian reported on September 2, 2025 that the SoFi District, short for South of First Street, officially took shape in October 2023 as a group of independent businesses and venues along a three block stretch south of First Street. Other local coverage places it along Second and Third Streets.
The district has built its identity around events. The same Bohemian story described the second annual SoFi Battle of the Bands, held in late July, with 21 bands on five stages and about 4,000 people attending, and named the Uptown Theatre and Folklore among the district's cultural anchors. Summer block parties are part of the calendar too.
The Bohemian's picture of the district is of independent businesses and venues focused on music, wine, dining and retail, run by a close knit group of business owners who work together on marketing and community events, and it called the result a vibrant cultural hub. For a walker, that means the SoFi blocks feel different from Main Street and from the market hall at Oxbow: independent storefronts, music venues, and a calendar that fills in the evenings as much as the mornings.
Ohm Coffee Roasters lists its Napa SoFi Cafe at 1412 2nd St, Napa, CA 94559, which puts it inside that stretch. Ohm's other cafe is on Sonoma Plaza at 117 E Napa St, in the separate town of Sonoma, so the 2nd Street address is the one that belongs on a downtown Napa walk. A SoFi coffee stop fits naturally at the start of an afternoon in the district's shops or before an evening show.
The Farmers Market on West Street
The Napa Farmers Market sets up at 1100 West Street in downtown Napa. Its site lists Saturdays year round from 8 a.m. to noon and Tuesdays from April 7 through December 22, 2026, also from 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. It is a California Certified Farmers' Market and a nonprofit, and its current banner, 40 Years Fresh, marks four decades of markets.
For a weekend visitor, a Saturday market morning is an easy anchor for a coffee walk. The coffee counters on Main Street and inside Oxbow Public Market both post opening times before the market's 8 a.m. start, so a visitor can pick up coffee, walk the market and still be on First Street well before an afternoon of tasting rooms.
The market is also one of the features the City of Napa names on its Downtown Neighborhood page, which is a good sign of how central it is to the rhythm of the town rather than a visitor attraction on the edge of it.
A Morning Loop, Step by Step
Here is the loop I would suggest to a friend with a free morning. Start on Main Street at 710 Main Street, where the doors open at 6:30 a.m. every day, and walk the riverfront while it is quiet. Head up to First Street, pass the Welcome Center at 1300 1st St, and cross toward the Oxbow District on the far side of Soscol Avenue.
Spend the middle of the morning at Oxbow Public Market, where the market hall opens at 7:30 a.m. and Ritual's counter at 610 1st Street opens at 7 a.m. Step outside to the Napa River Trail and the Oxbow Commons, or walk over to the Fork sculpture at The CIA at Copia. Then come back across First Street and drop south into the SoFi blocks on Second and Third Streets, where Ohm's cafe sits at 1412 2nd St.
On a Saturday or a Tuesday in season, add the farmers market at 1100 West Street between 8 a.m. and noon. On any day, finish with lunch downtown and let the afternoon go to the tasting rooms. The only planning job is matching each stop to its posted hours.
Why Downtown Napa Deserves Its Own Coffee Map
Most writing about Napa coffee treats the valley as one place and the Oxbow market as the whole story. Downtown Napa is more specific than that. It has a riverfront Main Street, a market district across Soscol Avenue, and a newer South of First district that formed in 2023, and each of those has a coffee address inside it.
Other Hillcane posts cover the rest of Napa town, including Old Sonoma Road and Redwood Road, and explain why Napa is its own market apart from Santa Rosa, Healdsburg and the Bay Area. This one only needs the downtown blocks, because on foot they are the part of Napa a visitor actually walks.
Put simply: 710 Main Street, 610 1st Street inside Oxbow Public Market, and 1412 2nd St in SoFi. Three addresses, one downtown of about 210 acres, and a river running through the middle of it.
