Dutch Bros Holds 10 Salem Drive Thrus. No Chain Took the Maps First Seven.

Dutch Bros lists 10 locations inside Salem, Oregon, on its own store locator, spread from Lancaster Drive on the east side to Wallace Road in West Salem. For a city of 176,666 people in the 2023 American Community Survey, that is one Dutch Bros for roughly every 17,700 residents, a denser footprint than the chain has in Portland, where 10 stores serve a city of 642,715.
And yet, when the Google Maps results for coffee shop in Salem OR were opened on September 13, 2026, the first seven places were all local independent cafes. No Dutch Bros, no Starbucks, no Dunkin, no 7 Brew. This closing piece for Salem sets those two facts side by side: where the chain actually sits, why its drive thrus and the Maps list answer different questions, and what that means for the independent cafes that fill Salem's coffee map.
Ten Salem Addresses, Confirmed
The Dutch Bros locator page for Salem, checked on September 16, 2026, reads 10 locations in Salem, Oregon, and lists each one: 1150 Ford Street SE, 3794 Commercial St SE, 1102 Lancaster Dr NE, 1350 Barnes Ave SE, 525 NW Wallace, 2822 Broadway Street, 3179 NE Market St, 810 Lancaster Dr SE, 4612 Portland Rd and 1096 Commercial St SE. That is the chain's own count, not an estimate.
Read as a map, those addresses trace Salem's main arterials. Two sit on Commercial Street SE heading south. Two sit on Lancaster Drive, one on the northeast stretch and one on the southeast. Others sit on Market Street NE, Portland Road on the north side, Broadway Street, Barnes Avenue SE, Ford Street SE and Wallace Road across the river in West Salem. Every one is placed where cars already pass.
Statewide, the same locator lists 157 Dutch Bros locations in Oregon. Salem's 10 match Portland's 10 in raw count, even though Portland has more than three times as many residents. Albany, to the south, has 3 and Corvallis has 5. By stores per resident, the chain is far denser in Salem than in Portland.
With 157 stores statewide, Dutch Bros is part of Oregon's everyday coffee landscape, and in Salem it is the drive thru texture along most of the busy roads listed above.
Keizer Is Its Own City
Keizer sits directly north of Salem and shares its edge so closely that visitors often treat the two as one place. Dutch Bros does not. Its locator lists Keizer as a separate city with 1 location, at 4915 N. River Rd., apart from Salem's 10.
The census treats them separately too. Keizer counted 39,013 residents in the 2023 American Community Survey, and that figure is never added to Salem's 176,666. The same rule holds for the store count: Salem has 10 Dutch Bros, not 11, and the Keizer store belongs to Keizer.
Keeping the line clear matters for anyone who wants accurate numbers. Ten Salem stores is already a strong footprint on its own. Folding in a neighboring city's store would blur the one figure a reader is most likely to repeat.
The same care applies in the other direction. A Keizer cafe searching for its own customers is competing in Keizer's results, not Salem's, and its pages should name Keizer plainly rather than borrow the capital's name.
No Chain in the Maps First Seven
The Maps results list for coffee shop in Salem OR, opened on September 13, 2026, showed seven places before the first scroll. All seven were local independents. None was Dutch Bros, Starbucks, Dunkin or 7 Brew. Two separate looks at the smaller map block on Salem coffee searches, one on September 13 and one in mid September, each showed three local independent cafes and no chain.
That result holds even though Dutch Bros has more Salem addresses than any single independent. A chain with 10 drive thrus across the city, backed by 157 Oregon stores, did not reach the first seven places for a broad coffee shop search in Salem on that day.
Map results do move. They shift with where the searcher stands, the time of day and how complete each listing is. The useful reading is the pattern, and the pattern across every September 2026 look is consistent: when someone in Salem asks Google for a coffee shop, local independents fill the first places they see.
7 Brew, the newer national drive thru chain, had no Oregon page on its store locator when checked in September 2026, so among the big drive thru brands Dutch Bros is the only one with a Salem footprint.
The Organic Results Held No Chain Either
The map is only one half of a search page, so it is worth checking the organic links too. On a mid September 2026 search for coffee shop Salem OR, the eight organic results were Yelp, Tripadvisor, a travel blog about working from coffee shops, the joe.coffee directory and four cafe homepages. No chain's store page appeared among them.
An earlier search on September 13, 2026, phrased as best coffee shops in Salem OR, returned nine organic results: a Reddit thread from r/SALEM, Yelp, Tripadvisor, a Facebook result, joe.coffee, the same travel blog and three cafe homepages. Again, no chain page made the list. Across both phrasings, the only businesses that spoke for themselves on the first page were Salem independents.
That lines up with the map. On the organic side, drinkers asking about coffee shops in Salem are sent to review platforms, community threads, directories and cafe pages. On the map side, they see local cafes. The chain's presence in Salem is physical, in its 10 drive thru buildings, rather than on the search page for a coffee shop.
The mid September page also carried an AI Overview at the top, a short machine written summary drawn from the same public material. A summary built from reviews, directories and cafe pages will reflect the same local picture, which gives independents one more reason to keep their own pages accurate and specific.
Why a Drive Thru and a Coffee Shop Search Are Different Questions
A Dutch Bros drive thru answers a commuter's question: where can I get a drink fast, on my route, without parking. Placing stores on Commercial Street, Lancaster Drive and Market Street answers that question well, and 10 locations mean most Salem drivers pass one on an ordinary day.
A search for coffee shop in Salem OR asks something else. The words coffee shop suggest a room, a place to sit, meet or work. Google's map tends to read that intent and lean toward businesses listed as cafes, with seating, hours and reviews that match. In Salem those businesses are overwhelmingly independent.
That gap between physical footprint and map prominence is the most useful fact in this piece for an independent owner. Store count does not buy the first places on a coffee shop search. A complete, accurate listing and a room that people choose to sit in do much of that work, and those are things a single independent cafe can control.
It also means the two kinds of business are not always fighting for the same customer. The drive thru serves the commute. The independent room serves the morning meeting, the study session, the weekend coffee with a friend. Salem has plenty of both.
Where Salem's Independents Sit Instead
Salem's independent cafes cluster in places the drive thrus mostly skip. Downtown has cafes on four streets near the Capitol: 102 Liberty St NE, 471 Court St NE, 299 Cottage St NE and 201 Commercial St NE. Broadway Commons has a cafe at 1300 Broadway St NE. South Salem has 1190 12th St SE near Bush Park, a cafe on 19th Street SE and 3996 Village Center Dr SE in Pringle Creek. The east side has 4771 Lancaster Dr NE.
A few of those streets overlap with the chain's map. Lancaster Drive has both a Dutch Bros and an independent cafe on its northeast stretch, and Commercial Street carries drive thrus to the south and an independent room downtown. But most of Salem's independent coffee sits in walkable blocks, neighborhood corners and the downtown grid, while the drive thrus line the arterials.
A street by street count of Salem's core, from downtown to South Salem, comes to roughly 18 to 24 independent cafes and roasters, before counting Keizer or the drive thrus along I 5. The joe.coffee directory, which casts a wider net, says it lists 58 independent coffee shops in Salem.
Either count dwarfs a single chain's 10. The chain wins on locations per brand. The independents win on number of shops, variety and presence on the map when someone asks for a coffee shop.
Not Portland, Not Albany
Salem is not a smaller Portland. Portland's 642,715 residents and dense neighborhood coffee districts make a different kind of market, and the chain's 10 Portland stores spread across a city more than three times Salem's size. Treating Salem's coffee scene as a Portland spillover misses its own geography.
Albany, with 56,773 residents and 3 Dutch Bros stores, sits to the south along I 5 and has its own scene. Corvallis, with 5 stores, is its own city with its own coffee map. Neither belongs in a count of Salem's coffee, and neither needs Salem's name to describe itself.
Salem's coffee identity is its own: a capital city crawl across Liberty, Court, Cottage and Commercial Streets downtown, Broadway Commons, 12th Street, 19th Street SE, Pringle Creek and Lancaster Drive NE. Those are the streets that matter to a Salem drinker, and they are the streets that fill the map.
What This Means for an Independent Salem Owner
For an owner worried that 10 drive thrus make the city unwinnable, the September 2026 map is reassuring. Every one of the first seven places for coffee shop in Salem OR was an independent. The chain's footprint is real, but it does not hold the top of the map for the search that brings people to a cafe.
The work that keeps it that way is steady rather than dramatic. Keep the business listing complete and accurate, with the right address, hours and category. Publish a page on the cafe's own site that names the street and neighborhood, so the room is easy to find for someone standing downtown, in South Salem or on Lancaster Drive. Keep the name, address and hours identical everywhere they appear.
None of this requires competing with the chain on its own terms. An independent does not need a drive thru window or ten addresses. It needs the one address it has to be easy to find, easy to trust and consistent everywhere a drinker might look, from the map card to its own homepage.

Dutch Bros lists 10 locations in Salem, Oregon, on its own locator as of September 16, 2026, including 1150 Ford Street SE, 1102 Lancaster Dr NE, 2822 Broadway Street and 4612 Portland Rd. Statewide the chain lists 157 Oregon locations. With 176,666 Salem residents in the 2023 American Community Survey, that works out to about one Dutch Bros per 17,700 people.
Is the Keizer Dutch Bros counted as Salem?
No. Dutch Bros lists Keizer as a separate city with one location at 4915 N. River Rd., apart from Salem's 10. Keizer is its own city of 39,013 residents in the 2023 American Community Survey, directly north of Salem, and neither its population nor its store is ever added to Salem's totals. Salem has 10 Dutch Bros drive thrus, and Keizer has 1.
Did any national chain appear in the Salem Maps first seven?
No. The Google Maps results for coffee shop in Salem OR, opened on September 13, 2026, showed seven places before the first scroll, and all seven were local independent cafes. There was no Dutch Bros, Starbucks, Dunkin or 7 Brew among them, even though Dutch Bros runs 10 Salem drive thrus and 157 stores across Oregon.
Does Salem have a 7 Brew?
Not as of September 2026. The 7 Brew store locator had no Oregon page when checked, and no Salem listing. Among the large national drive thru coffee brands, Dutch Bros is the only one with a Salem footprint, at 10 locations on streets such as Commercial St SE, Lancaster Dr NE, Market St NE and Wallace Road in West Salem.
Where are Salem's Dutch Bros drive thrus?
The 10 Salem addresses on the locator are 1150 Ford Street SE, 3794 Commercial St SE, 1102 Lancaster Dr NE, 1350 Barnes Ave SE, 525 NW Wallace, 2822 Broadway Street, 3179 NE Market St, 810 Lancaster Dr SE, 4612 Portland Rd and 1096 Commercial St SE. Two sit on Commercial Street and two on Lancaster Drive, following the city's busiest arterial roads.
How does Salem compare with Portland for Dutch Bros?
Salem and Portland each have 10 Dutch Bros locations on the chain's locator, but Portland's population is 642,715 against Salem's 176,666 in the 2023 American Community Survey. That makes the chain more than three times as dense in Salem per resident. Albany, with 56,773 residents, has 3 stores, and Corvallis has 5, each counted separately.
Why don't the drive thrus lead the coffee shop map?
A drive thru answers a commuter's need for speed on a familiar route. A search for coffee shop in Salem OR signals a room to sit, meet or work in, and Google's map tends to lean toward businesses listed as cafes. In September 2026 that meant all seven of the first Maps places in Salem were independents, despite 10 Dutch Bros addresses citywide.
Where do Salem's independent cafes sit?
Mostly away from the arterials. Downtown has cafes at 102 Liberty St NE, 471 Court St NE, 299 Cottage St NE and 201 Commercial St NE near the Capitol. Broadway Commons has 1300 Broadway St NE. South Salem has 1190 12th St SE near Bush Park, 19th Street SE and 3996 Village Center Dr SE, and the east side has 4771 Lancaster Dr NE.
How many independent coffee shops does Salem have?
A street by street count of Salem's core, from downtown to South Salem, comes to roughly 18 to 24 independent cafes and roasters, not counting Keizer or drive thrus along I 5. The joe.coffee directory casts a wider net and says it lists 58 independent coffee shops in Salem. Either figure is well above the chain's 10 Salem locations.
How can Hillcane help an independent Salem coffee shop?
Hillcane builds clear pages for independent coffee shops that name the street, the neighborhood and the hours, and keep those facts identical to the business listing. In a city where all seven of the first Maps places went to independents in September 2026, that accuracy helps a room hold its place. Reach out at hillcane.co/contact or call (256) 384-2449.
