FreeForm Coffee Roasters sits at 411 State Route 179, Suite 7, in Sedona, and its own locations page puts the cafe at the Schnebly Hill roundabout in Sedona's Gallery District. A few addresses back toward the Y, Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village fills 336 State Route 179, and inside it The Chai Spot pours chai at Suite B201. Up the road in the other direction, Hozho Distinctive Shops and Galleries sits at 431 and Hillside Sedona at 671. That short run of numbers on one state highway is the pocket of Sedona this post is about.
I am Thomas Garner, and I cofounded Hillcane to help independent coffee shops get found by the people already walking past them. The other Hillcane posts on Sedona lay out the city's three coffee pockets, what a search for coffee in Sedona shows, and why a sixteen stop tourist list shrinks to a small specialty core. This one slows down and walks the Gallery District itself, address by address, so a visitor with an afternoon on State Route 179 knows where a cup fits between the galleries.
Where the Gallery District Sits on State Route 179
State Route 179 is the road most visitors take into Sedona from Interstate 17. Wikipedia's entry for the highway gives it a length of 14.49 miles, starting at exit 298 off I 17 about 15 miles north of Camp Verde and ending at a roundabout where it meets State Route 89A in Sedona. That junction is the one locals call the Y, and it is the northern edge of the pocket covered here.
Just south of the Y, the highway crosses Oak Creek. The same entry notes that the road crosses the creek near Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village just before reaching its northern end. Keep going south and the addresses climb through the 300s, 400s and 600s, past the village, past the Schnebly Hill roundabout and on toward Hillside Sedona. In 2006, according to that entry, the U.S. Department of Transportation named the route an All American Road, the top designation in the National Scenic Byways Program.
Visit Sedona's arts and culture page gives this stretch its nickname. It says the galleries along State Route 179 are packed so densely that the area has earned the name Gallery Row, and it describes Gallery Row as a scenic stretch with a reputation as the heart of Sedona's art scene. That is the frame for a coffee walk here: the cups serve the galleries, not the other way around.
Tlaquepaque, 336 State Route 179
Tlaquepaque is the anchor of the pocket, and its own site lists its address as 336 State Route 179, Sedona, AZ 86336. The Sedona Red Rock News marked the village's 50th anniversary in a November 2, 2023 article by Joseph K. Giddens, which says the village was launched in 1973 and that its first fiesta came in 1975. The paper credits Bob McIntyre as the architect and reports 18 art galleries and 45 shops set within a sycamore grove preserved since the property's beginnings.
Wikipedia's entry on the village adds that the complex sits on either side of State Route 179 where it crosses Oak Creek, and that the site was originally a sycamore grove. The Red Rock News piece says the name comes from a word meaning the best of everything, and that the grounds include a chapel with hand carved Spanish doors and wrought iron gates.
For a coffee walk, the village matters because it is where most afternoon foot traffic on this stretch begins. People park, wander the courtyards, and then decide whether to keep walking along the highway toward the roundabout. The village's own site showed hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the day I checked, September 27, 2026, which frames when the courtyards are busiest.
The Chai Spot Inside the Village
The Chai Spot lists its Sedona address on its own site as 336 State Route 179, Suite B201, inside Tlaquepaque, with hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The same page says the Sedona location has been at the village since 2015. Its other listed location is in Manhattan, at 156 Mott Street.
Tlaquepaque's own directory places The Chai Spot among the village's food and drink stops, alongside restaurants and dessert counters. For a visitor, that means a warm cup is available without leaving the courtyards, and the posted hours run an hour past the village's listed afternoon close on the day I checked.
Chai is not coffee, and I am not going to pretend it is. But in a walk built around the Gallery District, it belongs in the same paragraph, because the question a visitor asks at three in the afternoon inside Tlaquepaque is usually where can I get something warm to drink, not what exactly is in the cup.
FreeForm Coffee Roasters at the Schnebly Hill Roundabout
FreeForm Coffee Roasters gives its cafe address as 411 AZ 179, Suite 7, Sedona, AZ 86336, also written as 411 State Route 179 #7. It posts business hours of 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily and a phone number of (928) 800 2885.
The locations page describes the cafe as located at the Schnebly Hill roundabout in Sedona's Gallery District, and it points out that the spot is close to Oak Creek and to what it calls Sedona's best art galleries. Its about page opens with the heading A Story of Place and the line Rooted in Sedona, and it says the company started in 2020.
Those posted hours shape the walk. A 7 a.m. opening means this is the cup for someone starting early on State Route 179, before the village's courtyards fill. A 2 p.m. close means an afternoon gallery crowd should plan the coffee stop for the first half of the day and save the later hours for the village.
Schnebly Hill Road Starts Here
The roundabout that FreeForm's page names is where Schnebly Hill Road leaves State Route 179. The Coconino National Forest page for the Schnebly Hill Vista Observation Site says the road can be reached from the merry go round in Sedona, the local nickname for that circle, or from the top via Interstate 17 at the Schnebly Hill exit, number 320.
The Forest Service is blunt about the lower route. Its page says not to attempt driving up Schnebly Hill from Sedona without a high clearance, four wheel drive vehicle, and it notes that from the I 17 exit the drive to the vista is about 5.7 miles. It describes the vista as one of the best views of eastern Sedona and the red rocks below, and it warns that winter closures can affect Forest Road 153.
That gives the roundabout a second identity. For a gallery visitor it is a landmark on a walk. For a jeep tour or a high clearance driver it is the start of a climb up the Mogollon Rim. Either way, a cup near the roundabout is the natural stop before or after, and a posted 7 a.m. open suits an early start up the hill.
Hozho and Hillside, Farther South
Past the roundabout the Gallery District keeps going. Hozho Distinctive Shops and Galleries lists its address on its own site as 431 State Route 179 and describes two stories of curated spaces, boutiques and fine art galleries. The site explains that Hozho is a Navajo word that translates as balance, harmony and beauty.
Hillside Sedona is farther along at 671 State Route 179, according to its Visit Sedona directory listing, which calls it a renowned shopping destination with restaurants, fine art galleries offering art, sculpture, pottery and jewelry, and boutiques. Visit Sedona's arts page names Hillside, along with Tlaquepaque and the Shops at Hyatt Pinon Pointe, as one of the notable gallery clusters in town.
Put those numbers in a row and the pocket has a shape: 336 for the village, 411 for the coffee at the roundabout, 431 for Hozho, 671 for Hillside. A visitor who knows that sequence can park once and walk a loop, and a cafe in this pocket can describe itself in the same terms, by the numbers and landmarks that sit on either side of it.
First Fridays in the Galleries
The Gallery District has a monthly evening that brings a different crowd to State Route 179. Visit Sedona's event listing for 1st Friday in the Galleries gives the next date as October 2, 2026, with galleries hosting openings, special guests, artist receptions and celebrations from 4 to 7 p.m., and it notes that times vary by location. Admission is free and open to everyone.
The listing names Tlaquepaque at 336 State Route 179 and the Hozho area among the participating locations, alongside Uptown Sedona and West Sedona near Harkins Plaza. Galleries named in the listing include Honshin Fine Art Gallery, Mountain Trails Galleries and Rowe Fine Art Gallery, all of which also appear in Tlaquepaque's own gallery directory.
For coffee planning, First Friday is the one evening a month when the Gallery District's foot traffic runs past most posted cafe hours. A visitor who wants a cup before the receptions should look at each stop's posted hours that day. A cafe owner in this pocket has a monthly reason to mention the event on its own page, since it brings people to the same block.
Parking Once and Walking the Pocket
Sedona's free trailhead shuttle has a lot at this end of town too. The Sedona Shuttle site lists three park and ride lots, and El Portal Sedona's guide to the service gives the North SR 179 Park and Ride at 1294 State Route 179 as the lot serving Cathedral Rock and Little Horse. The Sedona Shuttle site says trailhead routes run year round, Thursday through Sunday, with free parking and free rides and no reservations.
That lot is south of Hillside, so it is not a Gallery District parking plan. It matters because many visitors on State Route 179 are splitting a day between a trail and the galleries, and the order of that day decides where coffee fits. A hiker heading to Cathedral Rock early in the morning passes the roundabout on the way south. A gallery visitor arriving at 10 a.m. starts at the village and works outward.
Either pattern ends in the same place: a short list of addresses on one highway. Knowing that 336, 411, 431 and 671 are all on the same road, a few minutes apart by car and walkable in pieces, is what turns Gallery Row from a line on a map into a morning plan.
What a Gallery District Cafe Page Should Say
Every cafe in this pocket is answering the same visitor question: can I get a cup near where I already am. The simplest answer is a page that names the street number, the nearest landmark and the posted hours in plain text. On State Route 179 the landmarks are unusually strong: Tlaquepaque, the Schnebly Hill roundabout, Hozho, Hillside and Oak Creek itself.
Visit Sedona says the town is home to more than 80 galleries, and its arts page traces a long history, from the founding of the Sedona Arts Center in 1958 to the Cowboy Artists of America forming in Sedona in 1965. A coffee stop that sits among that history can say so. Naming the gallery cluster next door and the First Friday date gives both a visitor and a search engine the context they need to place the cafe correctly.
None of that requires inventing anything. The street number, the landmark, the hours and the event calendar are all public already. Putting them on one page, in words, is what lets a Gallery District cafe be found by the person standing in a Tlaquepaque courtyard at ten in the morning, phone in hand.

El Portal Sedona's guide places the North SR 179 Park and Ride at 1294 State Route 179, serving Cathedral Rock and Little Horse. That lot is south of Hillside, so it suits a hiker passing through the Gallery District rather than a gallery parking plan.
What should a Gallery District cafe page include?
A Gallery District cafe page should print its street number on State Route 179, the nearest landmark such as Tlaquepaque, the Schnebly Hill roundabout, Hozho or Hillside, and its posted hours in plain text. It can also mention the monthly 1st Friday in the Galleries, next on October 2, 2026. Visit Sedona counts more than 80 galleries in town, so naming the cluster next door helps a visitor place the cafe.
