Trail Coffee Roasters keeps its Downtown Cafe at 501 E. Main Street, Stockton, CA 95202, at the corner of California and Main, and a second Stockton room called Pacific Trail at 870 Dave Brubeck Way, Stockton, CA 95204, on the University of the Pacific campus. Those two addresses sit in very different parts of a city of 320,470 people, per the Census Bureau's 2023 five year American Community Survey, and each one answers a different kind of coffee trip.

Visit Stockton, the city's tourism bureau, put Trail on its October 21, 2024 list of must visit coffeehouses in Stockton and described the downtown cafe as a little oasis in the middle of Downtown Stockton. It described the campus cafe as steps from the University of the Pacific, one of the most beautiful places you can walk while enjoying a coffee. This is a street by street look at both cafes, their posted hours, the two Trail locations that belong to Lodi rather than Stockton, and the Miracle Mile location that has been announced but has not opened.

The Downtown Cafe at California and Main

The Downtown Cafe sits at 501 E. Main Street, on the corner where California Street meets Main. This is Stockton's older civic and commercial core, the grid of blocks around the San Joaquin County courthouse, city offices and the downtown theaters, and it is where much of the city's weekday working population spends its day.

Trail posts weekday hours of 7:00am to 2:30pm for the Downtown Cafe, Saturday hours of 8:00am to 1:00pm, and Sunday closed. Those hours tell you who the room is built for. A 7:00am open catches people on the way into an office or a court date, and a 2:30pm close follows the rhythm of a downtown that is busiest from morning through lunch.

Visit Stockton's description of the room as an oasis fits that setting. Downtown Stockton is a place of errands, filings and appointments, and a corner coffee room at California and Main gives people moving through those blocks somewhere to stop that is not an office lobby. For a visitor, it also makes a sensible first stop before walking the downtown waterfront or heading to a show.

Pacific Trail on Dave Brubeck Way

Pacific Trail sits at 870 Dave Brubeck Way, Stockton, CA 95204, on the University of the Pacific campus. The street honors Dave Brubeck, the jazz pianist and composer who studied at the College of the Pacific, and the university has long kept his name close to its music programs. A coffee room on a street named for one of the best known alumni in American jazz is a small but real piece of Stockton's cultural map.

Trail posts weekday hours of 7:30am to 2:30pm for Pacific Trail, Saturday hours of 8:00am to 1:00pm, and Sunday closed. The half hour later start is a campus detail. Morning classes, faculty office hours and study sessions set the pace here, not the courthouse clock downtown.

The University of the Pacific moved to Stockton in 1924 and its tree lined campus is one of the city's signature landscapes, which is exactly what Visit Stockton was pointing to when it called the area one of the most beautiful places to walk with a coffee in hand. A room on campus serves students, faculty, staff, visiting families and neighbors from the surrounding streets, a crowd that rarely overlaps with the downtown weekday workforce.

Two Rooms, Two Schedules

It helps to set the two Stockton cafes side by side, because they share a name and a menu board but not a neighborhood. The Downtown Cafe opens at 7:00am on weekdays and Pacific Trail at 7:30am. Both close at 2:30pm on weekdays, both open 8:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday, and both close on Sunday.

Those overlapping hours make Trail a morning and early afternoon brand in Stockton. Anyone hoping for an evening coffee on Main or on campus should plan around a 2:30pm weekday close, and anyone hoping for a Sunday Trail visit in Stockton will need to wait for Monday.

For a reader trying to decide which room to visit, the answer is mostly geography. Someone downtown for work or court goes to Main and California. Someone on campus or in the neighborhoods around the university goes to Dave Brubeck Way. The drive between them is short, but the experience of each room is shaped by where it sits.

Trail's own closing line on its contact block reads Enjoy the Adventure, no matter where the trail may lead you. For a brand with two Stockton cafes on two very different streets, that line reads less like a slogan and more like a plain description of the choice a Stockton coffee drinker makes each morning.

The Two Rooms That Belong to Lodi

Trail also lists two locations north of Stockton, and they belong to Lodi, a separate city of 67,008 people with its own downtown. Lodi Trail sits at 217 N. School Street, Suite 1, Lodi, CA 95240, with posted hours of 7:00am to 2pm on weekdays and 7:30am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Trail at the Lodi Cyclery sits at 9 N School St., Lodi, CA 95240, with posted hours of 8am to 6pm Monday through Wednesday, 8am to 7pm Thursday and Friday, and 10am to 7pm on weekends.

Those are real Trail cafes and worth a visit on a day in Lodi, but they are not Stockton neighborhoods. Counting them in a Stockton total would blur two cities with their own identities. They are also worth knowing for a different reason: the Lodi Cyclery location keeps later hours and weekend hours that the two Stockton cafes do not, so a coffee drinker who wants Trail on a Sunday afternoon will find it in Lodi rather than in Stockton.

Keeping the four locations labeled by city is the simplest way to describe the brand accurately. Two in Stockton, on Main and on Dave Brubeck Way. Two in Lodi, on School Street and inside the Lodi Cyclery.

The Miracle Mile Room That Has Not Opened

Recordnet reported in August 2026 that Trail plans a room at 2001 Pacific Ave on the Miracle Mile, the historic stretch of Pacific Avenue north of downtown that Visit Stockton treats as its own dining and shopping district. That would give Trail a third Stockton neighborhood alongside downtown and the campus.

As of this writing, that location is announced, not open. It is not counted here as an operating Stockton cafe, and a visitor should not plan a trip around it until the doors open. When it does, the Miracle Mile will sit between the downtown cafe and the campus cafe on the map, which would give the brand a line of cafes running north from Main Street toward the university.

Trail on Stockton's Wider Coffee Map

Trail is one of several independent names that give Stockton coffee its shape, and it helps to see where its two cafes sit among the others. The Well at 1200 N. Center St. covers Midtown with a non profit coffee shop created by Restore Stockton, open 7am to 5pm on weekdays and 8am to 2pm on Saturday. Empresso Coffeehouse covers the north side and downtown with locations at 1231 W March Ln, 222 N El Dorado St and 22 N San Joaquin St, and Visit Stockton called it a staple of the city.

Chain coffee is part of the picture too. Dutch Bros lists five Stockton drive thrus, on March Lane, South Center Street, Hammer Lane, Pacific Avenue and Scott Creek Drive, and Peet's lists a coffeebar at 5765 Pacific Ave. Those are car trips along the main corridors. Trail's two cafes are walk in shops tied to a downtown corner and a campus street, which is a different kind of stop in the same city.

Put together, the map is easy to read. Downtown has Trail at Main and California and Empresso's San Joaquin Street and El Dorado Street locations. The campus has Pacific Trail. Midtown has The Well. The north side has Empresso on March Lane and most of the Dutch Bros stands. The Miracle Mile has its own independent cafes along Pacific Avenue and a quiet side street, plus the Trail location Recordnet says is coming.

What Visit Stockton's List Tells a Visitor

Visit Stockton's October 2024 roundup is one of the first places a newcomer meets Trail. The list introduced itself as a guide for readers who want to go beyond the typical Starbucks or Peet's, and it named Trail with both Stockton cafes in a single entry: the downtown corner at California and Main and the campus cafe on Dave Brubeck Way. It also noted that both cafes open on weekdays and that the campus cafe is open Saturdays from 8am to 1pm, which matches the Saturday window Trail posts today for both locations.

For a visitor, that single entry is a useful shortcut. It says the brand is local, it says there are two cafes, and it points to two parts of the city worth seeing anyway. The rest of the list spreads across Midtown, the Miracle Mile, the north side and downtown, which reinforces the same lesson: Stockton coffee is organized by neighborhood, and Trail is the name that covers both downtown and the university.

Planning a Visit

A practical Trail morning in Stockton is simple. Arrive at 501 E. Main Street any weekday from 7:00am, or at 870 Dave Brubeck Way from 7:30am, and plan to be done by 2:30pm. On Saturday, both Stockton cafes keep a short window from 8:00am to 1:00pm. On Sunday, both Stockton cafes are closed.

Downtown, the cafe pairs naturally with a walk along the downtown waterfront or a visit to the civic blocks around the courthouse. On campus, it pairs with a walk under the university's trees or an event at one of Pacific's music or athletics venues. Both cafes are within a short drive of the Miracle Mile, which makes it easy to fit a Pacific Avenue stroll into the same morning.

Visitors comparing Stockton coffee options will also find The Well at 1200 N. Center St. in Midtown and Empresso Coffeehouse locations on March Lane, El Dorado Street and San Joaquin Street. Trail's two cafes cover downtown and the university, which is a useful way to fit it into a larger Stockton coffee day.

Why Street Level Detail Matters

A brand with two locations in one city, and two more in a neighboring city, is easy to describe loosely and hard to describe well. The details that matter to a coffee drinker are the street, the hours and which city the cafe is in. Those are also the details an AI answer or a map summary needs when someone asks where to find Trail in Stockton, and they are the details most likely to get blurred when four locations share one name.

Stockton deserves that precision. Main and California is not Dave Brubeck Way, and neither of them is School Street in Lodi. Frequently Asked Questions

Where are Trail Coffee Roasters' two Stockton cafes?

Trail keeps the Downtown Cafe at 501 E. Main Street, Stockton, CA 95202, at the corner of California and Main, and Pacific Trail at 870 Dave Brubeck Way, Stockton, CA 95204, on the University of the Pacific campus. Those are the two open Trail cafes inside Stockton city limits, one downtown and one on campus, as of this writing.

What are the Downtown Cafe's hours?

Trail posts hours of 7:00am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday for the Downtown Cafe at 501 E. Main Street, 8:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday, and closed on Sunday. The early weekday open fits the downtown workforce around the San Joaquin County courthouse and city offices, and the room is busiest from morning through lunch. Plan around it.

What are Pacific Trail's hours?

Trail posts hours of 7:30am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday for Pacific Trail at 870 Dave Brubeck Way, 8:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday, and closed on Sunday. The half hour later weekday start follows the campus day at the University of the Pacific instead of the downtown courthouse schedule on Main Street. Saturdays are short.

What did Visit Stockton say about Trail?

Visit Stockton included Trail on its October 21, 2024 list of must visit coffeehouses in Stockton. It called the cafe at California and Main a little oasis in the middle of Downtown Stockton, and it described the Dave Brubeck Way cafe as steps from the University of the Pacific, one of the most beautiful places in the city to walk.

Who is Dave Brubeck Way named for?

Dave Brubeck Way honors Dave Brubeck, the jazz pianist and composer who studied at the College of the Pacific, the school that became the University of the Pacific. The street runs through the campus, and Trail's Pacific Trail room sits at number 870, which puts a Stockton coffee stop on a street tied to American jazz history.

Are Trail's Lodi locations part of Stockton?

No. Lodi Trail at 217 N. School Street, Suite 1, and Trail at the Lodi Cyclery at 9 N School St. both sit in Lodi, CA 95240. Lodi is a separate city of 67,008 people per the 2023 American Community Survey, so those two cafes are Lodi addresses and are not counted as Stockton neighborhoods.

Can I find Trail open on a Sunday?

Not in Stockton. Both Stockton cafes, on Main Street and on Dave Brubeck Way, are closed on Sunday. In Lodi, Lodi Trail on School Street posts weekend hours of 7:30am to 2pm, and Trail at the Lodi Cyclery posts weekend hours of 10am to 7pm, so a Sunday Trail visit means a short drive north.

Is a Trail cafe at 2001 Pacific Ave open?

Not as of this writing. Recordnet reported in August 2026 that Trail plans a cafe at 2001 Pacific Ave on the Miracle Mile. Until it opens, it is not counted as an operating Stockton cafe. The two open Stockton cafes today are the Downtown Cafe at 501 E. Main Street and Pacific Trail at 870 Dave Brubeck Way.

How do the two Stockton cafes differ?

They differ mostly by setting. The Downtown Cafe at California and Main serves the civic core around the courthouse and opens at 7:00am on weekdays. Pacific Trail on Dave Brubeck Way serves the University of the Pacific campus and opens at 7:30am. Both close at 2:30pm on weekdays and share the same Saturday window. Pick by neighborhood.

Does Trail have cafes in Modesto or Sacramento?

No. Trail's locations are two in Stockton, on Main Street and on Dave Brubeck Way, and two in Lodi, on School Street and at the Lodi Cyclery. Modesto, about thirty miles south with 218,614 residents, and Sacramento up Highway 99 each have their own coffee scenes and no Trail locations on the brand's own list.
