Wausau Coffee Hours by Corridor, From Washington Square to Riverview

Wausau's coffee runs on four different clocks, and the corridor tells you which one. Downtown, The Pinery Coffee Co. inside Washington Square at 300 N 3rd St, Suite 103, opens at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays. Tucknee Coffee Company at 610 Washington St opens at 6:30 a.m. six days a week. On the northeast side, The Pickle Jar Grinds and Finds at 4308 N 6th St opens Wednesday through Sunday. At 3309 Terrace Ct, Vino Latte runs coffee from 6 a.m. into the evening on weekdays.
I built this guide because the most common coffee mistake in a small city is not picking the wrong shop, it is arriving at the right shop at the wrong hour. Wausau, the Marathon County seat on the Wisconsin River, counted 39,893 residents in the 2023 American Community Survey, and its independent shops keep hours that differ by day, by corridor and by what kind of shop each one is. A Monday afternoon plan and a Sunday morning plan point to different doors.
Everything below comes from the hours each shop posts on its own pages as of late September 2026. Where a shop's own pages carry two slightly different closing times, this guide gives the opening time and the days, and leaves the exact close to a quick check before you go.
Four Corridors, Four Clocks
Wausau's coffee map has three in city pockets that come up again and again: Washington Square and Washington Street downtown, and Riverview on the northeast side. A fourth address, Vino Latte at 3309 Terrace Ct, is a wine and coffee shop that describes itself as serving Wausau and Weston. Each keeps its own schedule.
Downtown holds the longest weekday coffee day of the three pockets. Riverview holds a shorter, morning focused day that skips Monday and Tuesday. Terrace Court holds the longest weekday span of all, because it is part coffee bar and part wine shop, and its evening hours reflect that.
None of these places are in Rothschild, Weston's village center, Edgar or Stevens Point. Those towns keep their own cafes and their own hours, and this guide stays inside Wausau addresses.
Washington Square: Weekday Mornings From 6:30
Washington Square is the downtown building at 3rd and Washington Streets. It went by the name 3rd Street Lifestyle Center for a stretch, and WSAW reported on October 2, 2025 that new owners were bringing back the Washington Square name. The Pinery Coffee Co. sits inside it at 300 N 3rd St, Suite 103.
The Pinery posts an opening time of 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, and it takes Sunday off. Its weekday day runs into the late afternoon, which makes it the downtown room for a coffee after a workday meeting, not only before one. Its pages give the closing time as 5 p.m. in one place and 5:30 p.m. in another, so anyone counting on the last half hour should check first.
The room describes itself as a downtown Wausau original and a warm place to slow down, connect and feel at home, and Visit Wausau's November 29, 2024 roundup noted events such as game nights and coffee tasting classes. For a visitor, that late afternoon window is the thing to remember: in this guide it is the latest weekday coffee downtown.
Washington Street: Six Early Starts and a Short Monday
Tucknee Coffee Company at 610 Washington St posts one of the more detailed schedules in town. Monday runs from 6:30 a.m. to noon. Tuesday through Saturday runs from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Its phone on the location page is (715) 298 0212.
That makes Tucknee the downtown Sunday option in this guide, and the Monday morning option on Washington Street with an early noon finish. A Monday afternoon plan on Washington Street should move to Washington Square, which keeps its full weekday day on Monday.
Tucknee's own page describes a room serving its best brews and made in house baked goods and invites guests to stay as long as they like. It also posts its current specials on Instagram and invites local artists to sell work at the shop. Visit Wausau, the city's tourism bureau, published a post on September 17, 2025 naming Tucknee the best coffeehouse in Wisconsin's Basecamp.
Riverview: Wednesday Through Sunday Mornings
The Pickle Jar Grinds and Finds sits at 4308 N 6th St, on the northeast side in the Riverview neighborhood. Its Find Us page lists Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Tuesday are its days off. Its phone is 715 298 2406.
One o'clock is the line on the northeast side. It is a morning room, and a coffee and gift stop that describes itself as a one stop shop for coffee and thoughtful gifts, with espresso drinks, baked goods and retail finds. Someone planning to browse the gift side should build in time before one.
The same page lists a set of holiday days off, including Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day and Thanksgiving Day, along with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Around those dates it is worth a look before driving over.
Terrace Court: The Longest Weekday Span
Vino Latte at 3309 Terrace Ct posts Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Sunday off. Its phone is 715 849 9787. It serves coffee, lattes and cappuccinos alongside a wine and whiskey shop, and it offers call ahead pickup and online ordering.
The 6 a.m. weekday start is the earliest posted opening among the shops in this guide, and the 7 p.m. close is the latest. For an early commute or an evening cup after work, this is the address that covers both ends of the weekday.
It is a different kind of room from the downtown cafes, a hybrid of coffee bar and wine shop, and it is best read that way. Someone who wants an espresso at 6:15 a.m. on a Tuesday and someone who wants a latte at 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday are both covered here.
Hour by Hour on a Weekday
At 6 a.m. on a weekday, Terrace Court is the posted option. By 6:30 a.m., both downtown shops are open, Washington Square and Washington Street. At 7 a.m. from Wednesday through Friday, Riverview joins them.
At noon on a Monday, Washington Street finishes for the day, and downtown coffee continues in Washington Square. From Tuesday through Friday, Washington Street runs until 3 p.m. Riverview finishes at 1 p.m. on the days it opens.
From 3 p.m. to the late afternoon, Washington Square is the downtown room still open on weekdays. After that, Terrace Court runs until 7 p.m. Put simply: early, Terrace Court; morning, everyone; midday, downtown; late afternoon, Washington Square; evening, Terrace Court.
Saturday and Sunday
Saturday spreads the openings out. Tucknee on Washington Street starts at 6:30 a.m. The Pinery in Washington Square starts at 7:30 a.m. Riverview and Terrace Court both start at 8 a.m. Terrace Court finishes at 2 p.m., Riverview at 1 p.m., Washington Street at 3 p.m., and Washington Square runs into the late afternoon.
Sunday is the day that narrows the list. Tucknee posts 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and The Pickle Jar posts 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Washington Square and Terrace Court both take Sunday off. So a Sunday morning coffee in Wausau points to Washington Street downtown or to Riverview on the northeast side, and a Sunday cup after two points outside this guide.
A weekend visitor who wants to see two corridors can do it on Saturday with room to spare, or on Sunday morning between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Three Sample Days
A weekday downtown day: an early cup at Tucknee on Washington Street from 6:30 a.m., a walk to Washington Square at 3rd and Washington Streets, and a late afternoon cup at The Pinery before it wraps up for the day. On Tuesday through Friday both downtown shops overlap from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., which leaves plenty of room for a meeting or an errand in between.
A Saturday two corridor day: downtown first, when Washington Street opens at 6:30 a.m. and Washington Square at 7:30 a.m., then a drive to the northeast side to reach Riverview between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. for coffee and a look at the gift floor at 4308 N 6th St.
A Sunday morning: Washington Street from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., or Riverview from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Either works for a slow start, and both leave the afternoon free for a walk downtown.
Downtown Events and the Coffee Clock
Downtown Wausau draws crowds that do not always line up with coffee hours. The Wikipedia article on Wausau describes the 400 Block as an open, grassy block that serves as a focal point for summer festivals, and it notes the Grand Theater, built in 1927, as a downtown entertainment venue.
An evening show or a summer festival usually runs well past the downtown shops' posted hours. For a coffee before an evening event, the practical options are an afternoon cup in Washington Square on a weekday or Saturday, or a weekday cup on Terrace Court until 7 p.m. A morning festival on a Saturday lines up well with the downtown shops, which both open by 7:30 a.m.
Chains Around the Edges
The national drive thru chains keep their own clocks, and neither is inside Wausau city. Dutch Bros has no Wisconsin page on its store locator. 7 Brew's nearest stand is at 225419 Rib Mountain Dr in Rib Mountain, which its locator shows opening on November 17, 2025, with hours from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
That stand answers a very different question from the independent shops, a drive thru cup at an hour when downtown is dark. It sits in Rib Mountain, a separate town, near the mountain that holds Granite Peak Ski Area.
For a Wausau coffee day built around the independent shops, the corridor clocks above are the ones that matter.
How to Check Before You Go
Every room in this guide posts its hours on its own pages, and several post day to day news on social media. Tucknee points to Instagram for current specials. The Pickle Jar keeps a Find Us page with its weekly hours and holiday days off. Vino Latte offers call ahead pickup at 715 849 9787. The Pinery lists its phone as 715 907 0001.
Wisconsin winters change plans. A snow day, a holiday week or a staffing change can move a schedule on short notice, and the fastest way to know is to check the shop's own channel the morning you go.
With the four clocks in hand, a Wausau coffee day is easy to plan. Pick the corridor that fits the hour, and let the other three wait for another day.
