Downtown Oroville is built for walking. The Downtown Oroville district describes eight blocks of comfortable walking with plenty of free public parking, and the coffee sits right inside those blocks. Park once near Oroville City Hall at 1735 Montgomery Street and you can reach Myers Street and Huntoon Street on foot in a few minutes.

I am Thomas, and this post is a walking route rather than a shop list. Hillcane's hub post maps all of Oroville's coffee, and the Feather River Blvd post covers the driving side of the city. This one stays inside the downtown district and follows the sidewalks: where to park, which buildings you pass, which coffee addresses sit along the way, and when the doors are open.

Oroville is the Butte County seat, with 19,855 residents in the ACS 2023 five year estimate. The facts below come from the City of Oroville, the Downtown Oroville district, Explore Butte County, the Butte 365 events calendar and the businesses' own pages, checked on September 27, 2026. Distances are straight line figures from OpenStreetMap coordinates.

A Gold Rush Downtown Built for Walking

The Downtown Oroville district's history page starts in 1848, with the discovery of gold that brought seekers from all walks of life to the Feather River. It says the downtown holds wonderful examples of California Gold Rush architecture, and that many of those buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The same page describes the district in walking terms: eight blocks of comfortable walking, plenty of free public parking, and more than 50 shops and eateries. The district's homepage adds that visitors can still find parking and stroll the shady sidewalks, and that the historic buildings connect to the uncrowded outdoor adventures of the Feather River and more than 40 miles of trails.

The district's history page also names people tied to Oroville's story, including Ishi, whom it describes as the last surviving member of the Yahi tribe, and Erle Stanley Gardner, the author of the Perry Mason books. A walk through downtown passes through that longer local story, not just along a route between coffee counters.

That is the setting for a coffee walk here. It is not a single strip. It is a small grid of named streets, Myers, Montgomery and Huntoon among them, each close enough to the others that the walk between coffee addresses takes only a couple of minutes.

Start at City Hall on Montgomery Street

The easiest place to start is Oroville City Hall at 1735 Montgomery Street, the address the City of Oroville lists on its own homepage. It is a fixed, public landmark that anyone in town can point you to, and it sits inside the walkable part of downtown.

From City Hall, the distances are short. Using OpenStreetMap coordinates, 1474 Myers St sits roughly 0.18 miles in a straight line from City Hall, and 1574 Huntoon St also sits roughly 0.18 miles away. In practical terms, both coffee addresses on this route are a walk of a few blocks from the steps of City Hall.

Montgomery Street is also where downtown gathers on Saturdays, in season. The Downtown Oroville Saturday Farmers Market sets up in the Montgomery Street parking lot below the Convention Center, according to the Butte 365 events calendar. More on the timing of that below, because it shapes the best day for a downtown coffee walk.

Myers Street and the City of Paris Building

Union Coffee Club sits at 1474 Myers St, inside the Historical City of Paris Building, and its own about page gives the date of its grand opening: April 25, 2025. A named building makes an easy landmark for a walker. Ask anyone downtown for the City of Paris Building and they can point you to Myers Street.

The shop's own page lists its hours clearly. It is open 7 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon on Monday and Friday, 7 in the morning to 6 in the evening Tuesday through Thursday, and 8 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday. The kitchen runs from opening until 1 in the afternoon, and the page notes that holiday hours may differ.

Its own about page describes the idea behind the room as coffee cultivating community, inspired by the spirit of the clubs people join in high school, college and adulthood. The same page offers a private room for book clubs, team meetings and workshops, and catering for events. Explore Butte County's Oroville page includes Union among its eat and dine suggestions for visitors.

A 1927 Theater on the Same Block

A walker on Myers Street passes one of downtown's best known buildings. Explore Butte County lists the Oroville State Theater at 1489 Myers St and describes it as a historic landmark built in 1927 from a design by the architect Timothy Pfluger. It calls the theater a 600 seat auditorium that hosts live performances in downtown Oroville and features an authentic Wurlitzer pipe organ.

Using OpenStreetMap coordinates, 1474 Myers St and 1489 Myers St sit roughly 0.02 miles apart, which means the coffee address and the theater share the same short stretch of Myers Street. For a visitor, that makes the theater marquee a second landmark for finding the City of Paris Building.

It also makes Myers Street a natural place to pair coffee with an evening. Explore Butte County says the theater hosts traveling dance troupes, live orchestral performances and other performing arts, and points readers to the theater's Facebook page for performance announcements. Coffee in the afternoon and a show on the same block is about as walkable as an evening in Oroville gets.

Huntoon Street for Coffee With Lunch

The third street on the route is Huntoon. JC Java sits at 1574 Huntoon St, and the Downtown Oroville district's place page describes it as more than just a coffee shop: a counter offering a variety of coffee and tea along with sandwiches, breakfast items and baked goods. That makes Huntoon Street the stop to remember when a coffee walk is turning into lunch.

Using OpenStreetMap coordinates, 1574 Huntoon St sits roughly 0.09 miles in a straight line from 1474 Myers St, close enough to walk between the two in a couple of minutes. For a pair of friends who want coffee first and a sandwich second, those two addresses make a very short loop.

Huntoon Street carries other downtown businesses too. The Downtown Oroville district's featured spots include The Gray Nurse Venue at 1359 Huntoon St, an arts and events venue. A walker working along Huntoon passes a mix of the district's venues, shops and eateries, which is exactly the mix the district describes on its own homepage.

Saturday Mornings on Montgomery Street

If your walk falls on a Saturday between spring and fall, plan around the market. The Butte 365 events calendar lists the Downtown Oroville Saturday Farmers Market every Saturday from 7 in the morning to noon, from May 16 to October 10, 2026, in the Montgomery Street parking lot below the Convention Center. Admission is free.

The listing describes it as a market built by farmers, for farmers and local businesses, and says all proceeds are donated to local nonprofits. It lists seasonal produce, artisan goods, handcrafted items and prepared foods. For a coffee walker, that means a Saturday on Montgomery Street has more going on than any other morning of the week.

The timing lines up well with the coffee hours. The market opens at 7, and the Myers Street coffee address opens at 8 on Saturdays. Walk the market first while it is quiet, then head over to Myers Street for coffee, or take a cup back to the market stalls before the noon close.

Evenings: Third Friday Show and Stroll

Downtown has an evening rhythm too. The Downtown Oroville district's events calendar lists 3rd Friday's Show and Stroll, and the Butte 365 calendar describes it as a Show and Stroll in Downtown Oroville under arts and culture. It is a monthly reason to walk the same streets after work.

A coffee walk and an evening stroll need different hours. On Fridays, the Myers Street coffee address lists 7 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon, so a Friday coffee stop fits the morning or early afternoon rather than the evening. Tuesday through Thursday, it stays open until 6 in the evening, which suits an after work cup.

The district itself frames downtown as a place to meet small business owners and shake hands on the sidewalk. An evening event is when that happens most. For someone new to Oroville, a third Friday is the easiest night to see how many people actually live their downtown on foot.

A Suggested Route

Put the pieces together and a simple downtown coffee route appears. Park near City Hall at 1735 Montgomery Street. Walk roughly 0.18 miles to 1474 Myers St for coffee in the City of Paris Building, passing the State Theater at 1489 Myers St on the same stretch. Then walk roughly 0.09 miles to 1574 Huntoon St if coffee is turning into lunch.

On a Saturday in season, start instead at the Montgomery Street market lot below the Convention Center at 7, and walk to Myers Street when the coffee counter opens at 8. On a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, the same route works late into the afternoon, because the Myers Street counter stays open until 6.

None of this needs a car after you park. That is the point of downtown Oroville, and it is what sets this half of the city apart from Feather River Blvd, where the coffee is built around the drive. Hillcane's Feather River Blvd post covers that side of town.

Keeping the Map Honest

Oroville is its own city. Its ACS 2023 population is 19,855, while Chico's is 102,032. Chico's cafes have their own coverage, and none of them belong on a downtown Oroville walk. Every address in this post sits inside Oroville's 95965 ZIP code and inside a few blocks of City Hall.

The Downtown Oroville Business Improvement District says its mission is a thriving business economy in the historic downtown district through marketing, beautification and business advocacy. A walking route like this one is a small version of the same idea: name the streets, give the addresses and hours, and let people find their way on foot.

For a downtown Oroville coffee business, the lesson is to give walkers what they use. Your street, a landmark they already know, like City Hall, the City of Paris Building or the State Theater, the year you opened, and your hours for every day of the week. Put those on a page you control and a visitor parked on Montgomery Street can find you without a second thought.
