Two Neighborhoods, Two Pages: Monroe and Kendall Yards Coffee

North Monroe and Kendall Yards are two different Spokane neighborhoods. North Monroe is a long commercial corridor on the north side, and Kendall Yards is a riverside neighborhood strung along Summit Parkway west of downtown. They are not far apart on a map, but people who live and work in each think about coffee in terms of their own street, and a search from one is a different question from a search in the other.
Below is the independent coffee on both, address by address, with street locations, posted hours and opening dates. Then comes a general lesson for any cafe with more than one location: each neighborhood is its own search, and each location is its own answer.
North Monroe: The Corridor
North Monroe Street runs north from near downtown through a string of storefronts, and it carries more independent coffee than most single streets in Spokane. At the south end, Cedar Coffee is at 701 N Monroe St. The shop says its Spokane location opened in 2017, and it keeps hours of 7:30am to 4pm on weekdays and 8:30am to 4pm on weekends.
Farther north, Indaba Coffee's Monroe room is at 2020 N Monroe St Suite A. It opened in the summer of 2024. Farther still, Arctos Coffee opened a second room at 2823 N Monroe St in the summer of 2026, keeping hours of 6:30am to 5pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on weekends.
Three independent cafes on one corridor, opened in 2017, 2024 and 2026, tell a story of steady growth. North Monroe has kept attracting cafes, and each new opening has added to the reasons a drinker might choose the street.
Kendall Yards: Summit Parkway
Kendall Yards sits on the north bank of the Spokane River, west of downtown, with Summit Parkway as its main street. Two independent cafes share that parkway. Indaba Coffee's Kendall Yards location is at 1315 W Summit Pkwy and opened over the winter of 2017 into 2018.
New Love Coffee's Kendall Yards room is at 1102 W Summit Pkwy Suite 102. It was established April 13, 2023, and it keeps long posted hours: 6am to 6pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on weekends.
Two cafes on one short parkway give Kendall Yards a coffee identity of its own. A resident there does not need to cross the river or head up Monroe for a cup. The answer is a few steps away on Summit Parkway.
Broadway and West Central, Next Door
Just south of Kendall Yards, across the neighborhood line into West Central, Broadway adds one more long standing coffee address. Indaba Coffee's original room is at 1425 W Broadway Ave, in the Walnut Corners building, and has been there since November 2009. It posts daily hours of 7am to 5pm.
That gives the Broadway location nearly 17 years on the same block by the fall of 2026, a long run for any independent cafe, and it is a useful reminder that Kendall Yards did not grow in isolation. Its neighbors to the south were pouring coffee well before the newest parkway storefronts opened. The neighborhoods around it had coffee first, and the parkway's cafes joined a part of the city that already had a morning routine.
How Visit Spokane Draws the Lines
The city's tourism bureau sees these neighborhoods the same way. Visit Spokane's coffee guide gives Kendall Yards its own heading, separate from Downtown Spokane and from Browne's Addition, and it groups the north side under a North Spokane heading of its own. Liberty Lake gets a separate heading because it is a separate city.
When the official visitor guide treats Kendall Yards and the north side as different places, it is a strong hint that visitors think of them that way too. A drinker using that guide is choosing a neighborhood first and a cafe second.
Francis Avenue and the Wider North Side
North of the Monroe corridor, Francis Avenue is another north side street with its own coffee. New Love Coffee's Francis room is at 1212 W Francis Ave. National drive thrus are here too: Dutch Bros lists locations at 1010 W Francis Ave and 931 E Francis Ave, two of its nine stores in Spokane.
Francis is a reminder that the north side is not one neighborhood either. Monroe, Francis, Garland and Hamilton each carry their own traffic and their own regulars, and each is its own search for the people nearby.
Why These Are Two Different Searches
A person standing on North Monroe who types coffee near me is thinking about the few blocks around them. So is a person on Summit Parkway. The two neighborhoods may sit only a short drive apart, but in the moment of a search they are separate worlds.
The same is true for people who plan ahead. Someone meeting a friend on Monroe will search for coffee on Monroe. Someone walking along the river near Kendall Yards will search for coffee in Kendall Yards. Neither is looking for a list of every cafe in the city, and neither wants to sort through addresses across the river to find the one nearby.
That is the core of this post's lesson. In a city as spread out as Spokane, the neighborhood name is part of the question, so it needs to be part of the answer too.
Rooms in More Than One Neighborhood
Several Spokane coffee names now have locations in more than one part of the city. New Love Coffee is a good example of how spread out that can be. Besides its Kendall Yards cafe, it has a location at 1212 W Francis Ave on the north side, with weekday hours of 7am to 4pm and weekend hours of 8am to 3pm, and a third location in Liberty Lake, established February 14, 2022.
Indaba Coffee has four Spokane locations: 1425 W Broadway Ave in West Central since November 2009, 1315 W Summit Pkwy in Kendall Yards since the winter of 2017 into 2018, 518 W Riverside Ave downtown since the fall of 2018 and 2020 N Monroe St Suite A since the summer of 2024. Arctos Coffee has two, on Hamilton Street and on North Monroe.
Each of those locations sits in a different neighborhood, and each one answers a different local search. That is the practical meaning of the title of this post: two neighborhoods, two answers.
Liberty Lake Is Its Own City
One geographic detail deserves special care. Liberty Lake is a separate city east of Spokane, with 12,435 residents in the Census Bureau's 2023 five year estimate. Spokane itself had 229,228, and the two numbers are never added together.
That matters whenever a cafe with locations in both places is described. A cafe at 21802 E Indiana Ave in Liberty Lake is a Liberty Lake stop, not a Spokane one, and a reader in Kendall Yards or on North Monroe will not treat it as a nearby option.
The same care applies to Spokane Valley, a separate city of 105,460. Keeping these lines clear helps drinkers, and it helps search engines place each address in the right community.
What a Good Room Page Includes
For any cafe with more than one room, a strong page for each room tends to include the same handful of details. The full street address with any suite number. The hours for that specific room, since they often differ from one location to the next. The neighborhood name the way locals say it. A short, plain description of the block, such as what is nearby and how people usually arrive.
Opening dates are worth including too. A room established in 2023 on Summit Parkway or opened in 2017 on North Monroe has a small story to tell, and dates like those are easy for readers and AI tools to quote.
None of this requires a large budget. It requires treating each address as a destination in its own right rather than one line in a list.
Why a Shared List Is Only a Start
Many multi room cafes, in Spokane and everywhere else, begin with a single locations list that stacks every address on one screen. That is a reasonable starting point, and it is far better than no list at all.
The limit is that a single list tries to answer every neighborhood's question at once. A reader on North Monroe has to scan past the Kendall Yards address, and a reader in Kendall Yards has to scan past North Monroe. Neither gets an answer written for their block.
A page per room solves that. It lets each location speak to its own neighbors, with its own hours and its own short story, while the brand stays the same across all of them.
Hours Tell Their Own Neighborhood Story
The posted hours along these two corridors show how differently each room serves its block. On Summit Parkway, New Love's Kendall Yards room opens at 6am on weekdays and runs until 6pm, a long day that fits a neighborhood where people live, walk and work close together.
On North Monroe, Cedar opens at 7:30am on weekdays and closes at 4pm, while Arctos's Monroe room opens at 6:30am and closes at 5pm. On the north side, New Love's Francis Avenue room closes at 4pm on weekdays and 3pm on weekends.
Each schedule is a clue to how the room fits its neighborhood, and each is a detail a drinker needs before heading out. That is one more reason every room deserves its own clearly stated hours.
A Walk Between the Two
For a visitor who wants to see both neighborhoods, the two corridors make an easy pairing. Kendall Yards and North Monroe are both on the north side of the river, close enough to visit in one morning.
A reader might start on Summit Parkway, where both Kendall Yards cafes open early, then head over to North Monroe and work north from 701 N Monroe St to 2823 N Monroe St. Along the way they will pass through two distinct neighborhood identities, each with its own coffee.
It is a small, practical illustration of the whole idea. The two neighborhoods sit close together, but each one feels, and searches, like its own place.
The Takeaway for Spokane Owners
Spokane coffee lives in named neighborhoods: Saranac Commons and 1st Avenue downtown, Logan and Hamilton near Gonzaga, North Monroe, Broadway and Kendall Yards, Garland and 57th Avenue on South Hill. North Monroe and Kendall Yards are two of the busiest pieces of that map.
For an owner with one room, the lesson is to state the neighborhood as clearly as the address. For an owner with two or more, the lesson is to let each room answer its own neighborhood's question, with its own page, its own hours and its own short story.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are North Monroe and Kendall Yards different coffee searches?
Yes. North Monroe is a commercial corridor on Spokane's north side, and Kendall Yards is a riverside neighborhood along Summit Parkway west of downtown. A drinker on Monroe Street and a drinker on Summit Parkway are each searching for the blocks around them. Independent cafes such as those at 701 N Monroe St and 1102 W Summit Pkwy answer those two different questions.
Where is Cedar Coffee and when did it open?
Cedar Coffee is at 701 N Monroe St, near the south end of the North Monroe corridor. The shop says its Spokane location opened in 2017. Its posted hours are 7:30am to 4pm Monday through Friday and 8:30am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, so it suits a morning or early afternoon visit on any day of the week.
Where are New Love Coffee's locations?
New Love Coffee has a Kendall Yards location at 1102 W Summit Pkwy Suite 102, established April 13, 2023, open 6am to 6pm on weekdays. It also has a north side location at 1212 W Francis Ave, open 7am to 4pm on weekdays, and a location in Liberty Lake at 21802 E Indiana Ave, established February 14, 2022.
Is Liberty Lake part of Spokane?
No. Liberty Lake is a separate city east of Spokane, with 12,435 residents in the Census Bureau's 2023 five year estimate, compared with 229,228 in Spokane itself. The two figures are never added together. A coffee room at 21802 E Indiana Ave in Liberty Lake belongs on a Liberty Lake map, not on a Spokane neighborhood map.
Which independent coffee shops are on North Monroe?
North Monroe holds at least three independent cafes. Cedar Coffee is at 701 N Monroe St and opened in 2017. Indaba Coffee's Monroe location is at 2020 N Monroe St Suite A and opened in the summer of 2024. Arctos Coffee opened a second location at 2823 N Monroe St in the summer of 2026, with a 6:30am weekday start.
Which independent coffee shops are in Kendall Yards?
Two independent cafes share Summit Parkway in Kendall Yards. Indaba Coffee's location is at 1315 W Summit Pkwy and opened over the winter of 2017 into 2018. New Love Coffee's location is at 1102 W Summit Pkwy Suite 102, established April 13, 2023, with weekday hours of 6am to 6pm and weekend hours of 7am to 5pm.
What should a room page include?
A strong room page includes the full street address with any suite number, the hours for that specific room, the neighborhood name the way locals say it and a short description of the block. Opening dates help too. A room established April 13, 2023 on Summit Parkway, for example, has a clear date readers and AI tools can quote.
Why is a single locations list only a start?
A single list stacks every address on one screen, so a reader on North Monroe has to scan past Kendall Yards and a reader on Summit Parkway has to scan past Monroe. A page per room lets each location answer its own neighborhood's question with its own hours, whether it opens at 6am on Summit Parkway or 7:30am on Monroe.
How many Spokane locations does Indaba Coffee have?
Indaba Coffee has four Spokane locations: 1425 W Broadway Ave in West Central, open since November 2009; 1315 W Summit Pkwy in Kendall Yards, opened over the winter of 2017 into 2018; 518 W Riverside Ave downtown, opened in the fall of 2018; and 2020 N Monroe St Suite A on North Monroe, opened in the summer of 2024.
Is this a Seattle or Coeur d'Alene coffee story?
No. North Monroe and Kendall Yards are neighborhoods inside the city of Spokane, which had 229,228 residents in the Census Bureau's 2023 five year estimate. Seattle is a separate coastal city with its own coffee scene, and Coeur d'Alene is a separate Idaho lake town. Spokane Valley, with 105,460 residents, is a separate city too.
