Search for coffee shop in Palm Springs and the places returned are not all the same kind of business. Some are coffee houses built around the espresso bar. One pairs coffee with cocktails in a building with a mid century past. One sits inside a hotel. One is a local company with cafes in three valley cities. And a few are something else first, a breakfast spot that welcomes pets, a bakery, a record store, that happen to pour coffee too.

This is not a ranking. A bakery cafe and a coffee house are simply doing different jobs for different visitors, and a result page that returns both under one label is reflecting a varied city rather than making a mistake. What follows sorts that variety into plain categories, with each named place tied to an address, sourced hours or the way it describes itself, so a reader can match a craving to the right kind of room.

Coffee Houses on Three Streets

The core of Palm Springs coffee is a set of independent coffee houses spread across three streets. On Indian Canyon Drive, Mentosa Coffee is at 383 N Indian Canyon Dr, and it describes itself simply as coffee and matcha in Palm Springs. On Tahquitz Canyon Way, Coffeeism is at 110 E Tahquitz Canyon Way, opened in August 2025 according to the Palm Springs Tribune, with a motto that reads Sip slow, hustle hard, stay caffeinated.

On North Palm Canyon Drive, Cafe La Jefa is at 750 N Palm Canyon Dr inside the Flannery Exchange, and it posts kitchen hours of 7 to 3 every day, which makes it as much a daytime kitchen as a coffee counter. These are the shops most people picture when they picture a Palm Springs coffee shop: a bar built around espresso, a daytime crowd, and a street address that tells a visitor which part of town they are headed to.

A Coffee and Cocktail Room

Ernest Coffee, at 1101 N Palm Canyon Dr, belongs in a category of its own. Its own headline reads Come for the coffee. Stay for the cocktails, and Bootlegger Tiki sits behind the cafe in the building that was once home to Don the Beachcomber. The room is built to change character as the day goes on, from a morning coffee stop on the Uptown strip to an evening drink a few steps away.

For a searcher, that matters. Someone looking for a quiet laptop morning and someone looking for a place to start an Uptown evening could both land on the same address, and both would be right. The label coffee shop on a map card does not say that. The cafe's own headline does, in eight words that tell a visitor exactly what kind of evening the room is built for.

A Coffee Room Inside a Hotel

At 1551 N Palm Canyon Dr, inside the Arrive hotel at the north end of the Uptown strip, Cartel Roasting Co. keeps a coffee bar that its own locations page lists as open daily from 7 in the morning to 6 in the evening. The same page lists the company's other locations in Arizona and one in Los Angeles, so the Palm Springs location is one stop in a wider set rather than a single address.

A hotel coffee bar serves two crowds at once: guests coming down from their rooms and passersby walking North Palm Canyon Drive. For a visitor, knowing that a coffee stop sits inside a hotel sets expectations about the setting, the seating and the pace, which is exactly the kind of detail a plain map pin leaves out.

A Local Company With Several Cafes

Koffi is the valley's multi location local coffee company. Its own about page dates the first Koffi cafe to 2002, and it now lists five cafes. Three sit inside Palm Springs: North at 515 N Palm Canyon Dr, Central at 650 E Tahquitz Canyon Way and South at 1700 South Camino Real near the Ace corridor. The other two sit in neighboring cities, a Rancho Mirage cafe at 71 380 Highway 111 and a Cathedral City cafe and drive thru at 67260 Ramon Rd.

That shape is its own category: a Palm Springs original that grew into several neighborhoods rather than one flagship. A visitor who likes one Koffi cafe can find another on a different coffee street, and someone driving through Cathedral City can use the drive thru without heading into downtown Palm Springs at all.

A Breakfast Spot That Welcomes Pets

One Palm Springs spot that turns up around coffee searches is a pet and breakfast cafe, a morning concept where coffee sits beside a breakfast menu and four legged guests are part of the idea. It is a real and popular kind of place, and it answers a different question than an espresso bar does.

Someone traveling with a dog and looking for a relaxed breakfast has found exactly the right category. Someone hunting for a particular espresso drink might prefer one of the coffee houses on Indian Canyon Drive or Tahquitz Canyon Way. Neither choice is better. They are simply different mornings.

A Bakery Cafe

Another place that appears for coffee searches is a bakery cafe whose own name puts coffee and pastries side by side. Coffee here rounds out a counter built around baked goods, which is a long standing and much loved format in almost every American town.

For a visitor, the category is the useful part. A bakery cafe is the right stop for someone who wants a pastry first and a cup alongside it, and it shows up in a coffee search because coffee is genuinely on the menu. The label coffee shop is accurate. It just does not tell the whole story.

A Record Store With Coffee

Palm Springs also has a record store that pours coffee, a combination that makes sense in a city known for vintage shopping along North Palm Canyon Drive. Browsing records with a cup in hand is its own kind of morning, and it is one more reason a search for coffee can return a business whose first identity is something else.

A music lover looking for a slow browse has found the right room. A visitor who wants a coffee house built around the espresso bar has three streets of those to choose from. Knowing which is which before leaving the hotel saves a walk in the desert heat.

The Drive Thru Chains, Mostly Outside the City

The national drive thru chains form a separate category, and in this valley they mostly sit outside Palm Springs proper. Dutch Bros' own locator has no Palm Springs city page. Its desert locations sit in Cathedral City at 34051 Date Palm Dr, in Indio at 81 776 Highway 111 and 41906 Jackson St, and in La Quinta at 44175 Jefferson St. 7 Brew's locator has no page for Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Indio or Coachella.

That leaves the three coffee streets of Palm Springs itself to the independents and the local company described above, while the drive thru format lives along the highways and arterials of the neighboring cities. A visitor who wants a drive thru is really looking for a different part of the valley, usually a drive east of downtown Palm Springs into Cathedral City, Indio or La Quinta, where the chains keep their windows.

Where the Categories Sit on the Map

The categories line up with Palm Springs geography more neatly than a visitor might expect. Tahquitz Canyon Way, the downtown business corridor, carries coffee houses built for a quick daytime stop, Coffeeism at number 110 East and Koffi Central at number 650 East. Indian Canyon Drive, a few blocks over near the Mojave Flea, has Mentosa at 383 N Indian Canyon Dr and a more local, browsing pace.

North Palm Canyon Drive, running into the Uptown Design District, holds the widest mix in the shortest stretch: Koffi North at 515, a daytime kitchen at the Flannery Exchange at 750, the coffee and cocktail room at 1101, and the hotel coffee room at the Arrive at 1551. South of downtown, Koffi South at 1700 South Camino Real serves the Ace corridor. The drive thrus, by contrast, sit out on Date Palm Drive, Highway 111, Jackson Street and Jefferson Street in the neighboring cities.

Rooms in the Neighboring Cities

Some places that come up for a Palm Springs coffee search are not in Palm Springs at all. Hot Lips Coffee Shop is at 68461 East Palm Canyon Dr in Cathedral City, and it calls itself a Daytime Disco for your Mouth and Soul. By its own posted hours, it is closed Tuesdays. Varraco is at 73891 Highway 111 in Palm Desert. Both belong on lists for their own cities.

The distinction is about more than a street number. Per the 2023 American Community Survey five year estimate, Palm Springs counts 44,998 residents, Cathedral City 52,047 and Palm Desert 51,551. Further east, Indio counts 90,669, La Quinta 38,299 and the city of Coachella 42,594. Each is a real city with its own coffee scene, and folding their cafes into a Palm Springs list would send a visitor on a drive they did not plan for.

How to Use These Categories

Before heading out, name the morning you actually want. A coffee house built around the espresso bar points to Indian Canyon Drive, Tahquitz Canyon Way or the Uptown strip. A coffee that turns into a cocktail points to 1101 N Palm Canyon Dr. A coffee inside a hotel points to the Arrive at 1551 N Palm Canyon Dr. A daytime kitchen with coffee points to the Flannery Exchange, where the kitchen runs 7 to 3.

A breakfast with a dog, a pastry with a cup or a record browse with coffee each point to a different kind of room again, and a drive thru points out of the city toward Cathedral City, Indio or La Quinta. That small act of sorting turns a vague plan to get coffee somewhere in Palm Springs into a specific walk to the right door.

Why a Label Is Not a Verdict

Every category here is a description, not a grade. A bakery cafe is not a lesser coffee house, and a record store with coffee is not a failed cafe. Search engines use the phrase coffee shop broadly because people use it broadly, and the businesses that answer to it are genuinely varied.

For a Palm Springs business owner, the lesson runs the other way too. A cafe that says plainly what kind of room it is, its street, its hours and its own words about itself, helps every visitor who lands on it from a broad search sort themselves into the right door, which is good for the visitor and good for the business.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is every Palm Springs coffee shop a specialty coffee bar?

No. The places that answer to coffee shop in Palm Springs include coffee houses such as Mentosa at 383 N Indian Canyon Dr and Coffeeism at 110 E Tahquitz Canyon Way, a coffee and cocktail room, a hotel coffee room, a multi room local company, and businesses that are breakfast spots, bakeries or record stores first. Each serves coffee, but each answers a different kind of morning.

Which Palm Springs cafe pairs coffee with cocktails?

Ernest Coffee, at 1101 N Palm Canyon Dr in the former home of Don the Beachcomber, puts the idea in its own headline: Come for the coffee. Stay for the cocktails. Bootlegger Tiki sits behind the cafe, so the same Uptown address works for a morning coffee and an evening drink on North Palm Canyon Drive.

Is there a coffee room inside a Palm Springs hotel?

Yes. Cartel Roasting Co. keeps a coffee bar inside the Arrive hotel at 1551 N Palm Canyon Dr, at the north end of the Uptown strip. Its own locations page lists it as open daily from 7 in the morning to 6 in the evening, alongside the company's other locations in Arizona and one in Los Angeles.

How many Koffi cafes are there, and how many are in Palm Springs?

Koffi lists five cafes, and its about page dates the first to 2002. Three are inside Palm Springs: North at 515 N Palm Canyon Dr, Central at 650 E Tahquitz Canyon Way and South at 1700 South Camino Real. The other two are a Rancho Mirage cafe at 71 380 Highway 111 and a Cathedral City cafe and drive thru at 67260 Ramon Rd.

Are pet cafes, bakery cafes and record stores coffee shops?

They serve coffee, so a search for coffee shop in Palm Springs can return them, but coffee is not their first identity. The city has a pet and breakfast cafe, a bakery cafe whose name pairs coffee with pastries, and a record store that pours coffee, fitting a town known for vintage shopping on North Palm Canyon Drive. Each suits a different visitor.

Where are the Dutch Bros locations near Palm Springs?

Dutch Bros' own locator has no Palm Springs city page. Its desert locations are in Cathedral City at 34051 Date Palm Dr, in Indio at 81 776 Highway 111 and 41906 Jackson St, and in La Quinta at 44175 Jefferson St. That places the drive thru format along the neighboring cities' highways and arterials rather than on Palm Springs's three coffee streets.

Does 7 Brew have a Palm Springs location page?

No. 7 Brew's own locator has no page for Palm Springs, and the same holds for Cathedral City, Indio and the city of Coachella. Together with Dutch Bros having no Palm Springs city page, that leaves Tahquitz Canyon Way, Indian Canyon Drive and North Palm Canyon Drive to independent coffee houses and the valley's local multi room company.

Are the Cathedral City and Palm Desert coffee shops part of Palm Springs?

No. Hot Lips Coffee Shop is at 68461 East Palm Canyon Dr in Cathedral City, a city of 52,047 per the 2023 American Community Survey, and by its own posted hours it opens every day except Tuesday. Varraco is at 73891 Highway 111 in Palm Desert, a city of 51,551. Both are worth knowing, but they belong on lists for their own cities.

Are Indio, La Quinta and the city of Coachella part of Palm Springs coffee?

No. Per the 2023 American Community Survey five year estimate, Indio counts 90,669 residents, La Quinta 38,299 and the city of Coachella 42,594, each larger or close in size to Palm Springs at 44,998. Each has its own coffee scene deserving its own coverage, and Dutch Bros alone keeps two Indio locations and one in La Quinta.

Is this category guide a ranking?

No. It sorts Palm Springs coffee places by kind, not by quality. A bakery cafe, a record store with coffee and a coffee house on Indian Canyon Drive are doing different jobs, and none is presented as better. The categories exist so a visitor can match a morning, such as a kitchen breakfast between 7 and 3 or an evening cocktail, to the right address.
