Hub Coffee Roasters started, by its own telling, inside a tiny garage in Midtown Reno. Today the business runs three separate public cafes across the city, at Riverside, at RED, and at Meadowcreek, each with its own address, its own hours, and its own role in Reno's coffee geography. That growth, from one garage to three real cafes across a whole city, is a genuine Reno coffee story worth telling on its own terms.

I run Hillcane with my business partner Thomas, and coffee is the part of this work I care about most, the real craft and the real history behind a shop's counter. Hub is one of the businesses that has genuinely helped define what Reno's coffee scene looks like today, and it deserves a proper, complimentary telling rather than a passing mention in a longer citywide list somewhere else.

This post is not a pitch and it is not an audit. Hub has already built something real here, a scene defining Reno coffee name with three public cafes and a name recognized across the city. What follows is simply the story of what that looks like, told plainly.

There is a version of a coffee brand's growth story that reads like a corporate expansion memo, more locations, more square footage, more revenue. Hub's version reads differently, because each of its three cafes sits in a genuinely distinct part of the city, serving a distinct neighborhood, rather than simply multiplying the same formula across as many addresses as possible. That distinction is worth keeping in mind throughout the rest of this story.

From a Garage to Three Cafes

Hub's own story starts in 2009, inside a small garage in Midtown Reno, a humble beginning for a business that has since grown into one of the city's most recognized coffee names. That kind of origin story matters because it grounds everything that came after in something real and specific, not an abstract brand launch but an actual physical starting point in a real Reno neighborhood.

From that garage, Hub has grown into three separate public cafes: a Riverside flagship, a cafe at RED, and a Meadowcreek location in South Reno. Three distinct locations, in three distinct pockets of the city, each drawing its own local crowd while carrying the same name and the same story that started in Midtown.

That kind of growth, from a single small space into three real public cafes, reflects a business that has earned its expansion through actual demand rather than simply opening locations because it could. Each of Hub's three cafes has its own reason to exist in its own part of the city, rather than being interchangeable copies of the same shop stamped across Reno.

It is worth pausing on what a garage means as a starting point for a business that now runs three public cafes. A garage is about as unglamorous a beginning as a coffee business can have, no storefront, no foot traffic, nothing handed to it by a prime location. Whatever Hub built from that starting point, it built on the strength of the coffee and the relationships formed with early customers, long before any of the three current cafes existed.

The Riverside Flagship

Hub's Riverside cafe sits at 727 Riverside Dr, right along the Truckee River that cuts through downtown Reno, open every day from seven in the morning until four in the afternoon. As the flagship, this room carries a special weight in the brand's story, the space that represents Hub's fullest expression of what the business has become since its garage beginnings.

A riverside address gives this particular cafe a setting few coffee shops anywhere get to claim, a real river running past just outside, part of what makes downtown Reno's Truckee Riverwalk stretch such a distinctive piece of the city. Hub's flagship sits right in the middle of that scene, giving both residents and visitors a genuine reason to make the walk along the water.

Calling this room the flagship also signals something about how Hub itself thinks about its own three cafes. A flagship is not just the first location chronologically, it is the room chosen to represent the brand most fully, the place where a first time visitor gets the clearest sense of what Hub is actually about. Placing that flagship along the Truckee Riverwalk, rather than in a more generic commercial strip, was a deliberate choice about what kind of experience Hub wanted to lead with.

RED and Meadowcreek

Hub's second cafe sits in the RED district at 2020 RED Dr #101, open Monday through Saturday from six in the morning until four in the afternoon, and Sunday from seven until four. RED is a newer stretch of Reno, distinct from both Midtown and downtown, and Hub's presence there gives that part of the city a real specialty coffee option of its own.

The third cafe, Meadowcreek, sits further out at 15425 Wedge Pkwy #120 in South Reno, open every day from six in the morning until four in the afternoon. Meadowcreek gives South Reno residents a Hub location close to home, rather than requiring a drive all the way back to the Riverside flagship or the RED cafe to get the same coffee.

Together, Riverside, RED and Meadowcreek give Hub a real footprint across three different parts of Reno, downtown, a newer district, and a southern residential stretch, each with its own hours tuned to its own neighborhood's rhythm. That is a real, deliberate geographic spread, not three copies of the same cafe placed at random.

The hours themselves are worth a closer look too. RED opens an hour earlier on weekdays than the Riverside flagship, and Meadowcreek opens earlier still, every single day of the week. Those small differences suggest each cafe has been tuned to its own actual customer base, rather than every room simply running whatever schedule the flagship happens to keep. A business paying that kind of attention to each individual location's rhythm is doing real, careful work behind the scenes.

Three Rooms, Three Phone Numbers

The practical details for each room are simple, and they are worth having in one place. The Riverside flagship is at 727 Riverside Dr, Reno, NV 89503, phone (775) 453 1911, open every day from seven in the morning until four in the afternoon. The RED cafe is at 2020 RED Dr #101, Reno, NV 89502, phone (775) 686 6729, open Monday through Saturday from six until four and Sunday from seven until four.

The Meadowcreek cafe is at 15425 Wedge Pkwy #120, Reno, NV 89511, phone (775) 622 0137, open every day from six in the morning until four in the afternoon. It sits across from Reno ICE, which is the easiest landmark to steer by for anyone driving down Wedge Parkway for the first time.

Three separate phone numbers is a small detail that says a lot. Each room is run as its own place, with its own staff answering its own line, rather than one central number routing every call. For a customer, that means a question about a specific room, whether it is open on a holiday or how busy the morning is, goes straight to the people standing behind that counter.

Recognized in Reno's Coffee Conversation

Hub tells its own story under the heading Serving Coffee in Reno Since 2009, and it traces that story back to a tiny garage in Midtown. Those are the shop's own words, and they sit alongside something no shop can write for itself, which is outside coverage from people with no stake in the business.

Sprudge, one of the most respected specialty coffee publications anywhere, featured Hub's RED cafe in its Build Outs series, an outside acknowledgment that adds weight to the business's reputation beyond its own pages. Reno This Week included Hub's Riverside cafe in a local coffee roundup on April 29, 2025, and Visit Reno Tahoe features Hub Coffee Roasters among the local coffee shops it recommends to visitors, pointing to the Riverside cafe on the Truckee River.

That combination, a since 2009 story on its own site, a national feature from Sprudge, and local and tourism coverage from Reno This Week and Visit Reno Tahoe, gives Hub a layered reputation. None of those alone would tell the whole story, but together they describe a Reno coffee name recognized by several different kinds of voices at once, not just one narrow channel.

How to Choose Between the Three Rooms

Which room to visit mostly comes down to where the day already is. Anyone downtown, staying near the casinos or walking the river, has the Riverside flagship at 727 Riverside Dr within reach, with the Truckee River running past outside. It opens at seven every day, which makes it a natural stop before a walk along the Riverwalk.

Anyone starting early near the RED district has the room at 2020 RED Dr #101, which opens at six Monday through Saturday, an hour ahead of the flagship. On Sunday it opens at seven like Riverside. For a weekday commute through that part of the city, RED is the earliest Hub door to walk through.

Anyone in South Reno, or heading to a skate at Reno ICE, has Meadowcreek at 15425 Wedge Pkwy #120, which opens at six every day of the week, weekends included. That makes Meadowcreek the only one of the three open at six on a Sunday, a small detail that matters to early risers in the south of the city.

A Scene Defining Reno Coffee Name

Put it all together and Hub Coffee Roasters is exactly the kind of business that helps define what a city's coffee scene looks like from the outside, and it has done so consistently since that first garage. Three public cafes across different Reno neighborhoods, each with its own phone line and hours, a story on its own site that runs back to 2009, and outside recognition from Sprudge, Reno This Week and Visit Reno Tahoe.

From a tiny Midtown garage in 2009 to three real cafes across the city today, Hub's growth is a genuine Reno coffee story, the kind that gives the whole city's coffee scene real depth and real history to point to. It is a business worth knowing, worth visiting at any of its three addresses, and worth recognizing as one of the names that has shaped what coffee in Reno actually looks like.

It is also a story that keeps its roots in one city. Every one of the three public cafes is inside Reno, from 89503 downtown to 89502 at RED to 89511 in South Reno, and the whole thing traces back to a single Midtown garage. For a city of about 268,959 people, that is a coffee name that grew by filling in its own map rather than leaving it.

Whether the closest room is the Riverside flagship along the Truckee, the RED district cafe, or the Meadowcreek location across from Reno ICE, each one carries the same name and the same story stretching back to that original Midtown garage in 2009. That is a complete Reno coffee story, told across three real addresses rather than one.
